Taiwan awards 4G spectrum to six companies

Taiwan has awarded 4G spectrum to six companies in the recently concluded 4G auction.

The winners include: Star Mobile Telecommunications, Asia Pacific Telecom, Ambit Microsystems, EasTone, Taiwan Mobile and Chunghwa Telecom rasing a total of €2.93 billion.

There were seven applicants, including Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Far Eastone Telecommunications(FET), Asia Pacific Telecom, Ambit Microsystems and two other companies backed by Ting Hsin International Group and Shinkong Group.

NCC has released a total of 270 MHz of frequency spectrum in the 700 MHz, 900 MHz and 180 0MHz bands for 4G service.

Chunghwa Telecom got spectrum in 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands by paying €1 billion. Far EasTone and Taiwan Mobile won spectrum in both 700 MHz and 1800 MHz bands by paying NT$31.31 billion and NT$29.01 billion respectively.

Ambit Microsystems, a unit of contract electronics manufacturer Hon Hai secured spectrum in the 700 MHz and 900 MHz bands and paid €226 million. Star Mobile Telecommunications and Asia Pacific Telecom were the other two winners
