AT&T 4G to cover 270 mn people and 400 markets by 2013

AT&T 4G LTE plans to cover more than 270 million people and 400 markets by end of 2013.

The company plans to rollout 4G LTE in at least 50 additional markets by the end of this year, bringing more customers. AT&T 4G LTE currently covers more than 225 million people and 370 markets. Customers in these markets are expected to be able to stream, download, upload, and game faster than ever before.

AT&T’s 4G LTE deployment is part of AT&T’s Project Velocity IP (VIP), a three-year investment plan announced last fall to expand and enhance its IP broadband networks. Through this investment, AT&T is supporting its customers’ growing desire for high-speed Internet access and new mobile, app and cloud-based services.

As part of Project VIP, AT&T plans to add more than 10,000 macro cell sites nation wide by year-end 2015, as well as deploy more than 40,000 small cells and add more than 1,000 Distributed Antenna Systems to increase the density of its wireless network.

Over the past five years, AT&T has invested nearly $98 billion into operations. Since 2008, AT&T has invested more capital into the US economy than any other public company.
