“Zamtel customers in Kitwe, will have the opportunity to experience the phenomenal speeds offered by 4G technology which can deliver in excess of 50 Mbps and represents a quantum leap in performance when compared to 3G technology which typically has speeds of 2-3 Mbps. 4G technology will provide a platform for data-hungry services and applications such as IPTV, interactive gaming and video-on-demand etc,” said Zamtel’s chief executive officer, Dr Mupanga Mwanakatwe.

Currently, the LTE service in Zambia is still at its infancy and the 4G experience will prove the immense benefits of this latest generation mobile communications technology. Mobile Broadband is a game changer that will transform the ICT landscape in Zambia, opening up a host of new possibilities in the field of mobile-commerce and will shape how education and health services, for example, are provided in the future.

“Zamtel’s long-term partner, Huawei is delighted to see the significant development of Zamtel in terms of both technologies and business. We are certain that the approach to adopt LTE, which is the latest mobile technology, highlights Zamtel’s commitment to provide more multimedia and better services to all Zambians,” said Huawei managing director in-charge of Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi, Spawn Fan.
