Xiaomi Launches Redmi 2, Mi Pad In India

xiaomi-redmi-2Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi today launched two new devices in the Indian market – the Redmi 2 smartphone and the Mi Pad tablet. The Redmi 2 is priced at Rs 6,999 and the Mi Pad tablet is priced at Rs 12,999.

The company is planning to keep an initial stock of around 30,000-40,000 unit for sale.

The Redmi 2 is the upgraded version of  Redmi 1S that was launched in August last year. Both the versions have same screen size – 4.7 inch but the company has added more teeth in the latest edition. The Redmi 2 is a dual SIM 4G phone and is powered by 1.2 GHz Snapdragon quad core 410 processor. It comes with 1GB RAM and 8 GB of internal built-in storage which could be expanded upto 64 GB. It offers an resolution of 1280×720 pixel with 312 PPI.

The Redmi 2 runs on Android 4.4 Kitkai OS and sports an 8 megapixel rear camera. It also offers a 5 megapixel front camera. The company has has used MIUI 6 version of user interface in Redmi 2 which was missing in the earlier version. This new UI adds many more features to the overall user experience.

As usual and maintaining its partnership intact with Flipkart, Xiaomi will sell the Redmi 2 through the online retail channel. However, after few months, it will also available with its offline partner Airtel. Xiaomi is already selling one more smartphone – Redmi Note 4G – through Airtel.

Besides the Redmi 2, Xiaomi today brought its first tablet Mi Pad to India. Its 7.9 inch WiFi only device and runs on a 2.2 GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra K1 Cortex-A15 CPU.. The Mi Pad comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB. It runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS with MIUI 6. It has a 6,700 mAh battery.

Both the devices, the Redmi 2 and Mi Pad, will be available on Flipkart from 24 March, however, unlike Redmi 2 pre-registration is not required to buy the tablet.
