Xiaomi enters India, to set up R&D center soon

xiaomi-mi2Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi (pronounced Shao Me) today entered the Indian market with some new promise. The company launched one smartphone – Mi3- today and showcased multiple devices that are in the pipeline to be launched in the Indian market soon.

Typical to its distribution strategy of selling through e-commerce, in India too, Xiaomi partnered with Flipkart for the distribution of its smartphones. So the devices will be available only through Flipkart, and the company does not have any plan in the near future to go with the traditional retail route.

The company also said it will soon set up its R&D center in Bangalore which will mainly be used to design solutions that are required for the local market.

The Mi3 is a 5 inch full HD device with 1080p IPS display that uses a 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series processor. The Xiaomi Mi3 comes with a 13 megapixel rear camera and 2 megapixel front camera. It is loaded with a 2GB RAM and the company offers an inbuilt storage capacity of 16 GB.  Surprisingly, the Xiaomi Mi3 device comes with a huge 3050 mAh lithium ion battery which is not a regular practice in 5 inch devices. The device is priced at Rs 13,999.

Similarly the company also announced to bring two more smartphones and 2 more tablets in coming future. Xiaomi will launch Redmi 1S and Redmi Note in next few weeks, probably in the 1st week of August.
