Celebrating its 5th anniversary, Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi has created world record by selling 2.11 million smartphones in 24 hours.

Mi.com, the official customer website of Xiaomi has sold 2,112,010 mobile phones in a day to set Guinness World Record for most smartphones sold on a single online platform in 24 hours.

The record came amid the company’s annual fan festival, Mi Fan Festival (MFF) which offers various special promotions to its customers during its anniversary period.

According to the company, this year’s Mi Fan Festival saw it generate a total of 2.08 bn yuan ($335 million) in revenue with 770,000 smart appliances and 38,600 TVs also being sold on top of its record setting mobile phone sales. A total of 14.6 million consumers are said to have completed a purchase from the site during the promotional period.

The mobile phone record was confirmed by Guinness World Records following verification of an agreed upon procedures report from auditing firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers.

Speaking on Mi Fan Festival, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said, “We do believe something wonderful is about to happen.”

And the wonder has finally happened with Xiaomi securing Guinness Record for selling maximum number of mobile phones.

Lei Jun said, “It’s a breakthrough achievement. Behind the huge sales figures, Xiaomi service team gave a strong support. Xiaomi achieved the record with the support of 14.6 million Mi fans who involved in MFF online the whole day. 12 major distribution centers provided their strong service nationwide.”
