Videocon to participate in Delhi spectrum auction

Videocon Telecom, the telecom arm of the $4 billion Videocon Group is planning to participate for Delhi circle in the upcoming spectrum auction planned in January, 2014.

Videocon Telecom finds the sharp cut in the reserve spectrum floor price for the 900 MHz spectrum to be very attractive and is seeing it as a big opportunity. The brand is evaluating to bid for the 900 MHz license in Delhi in the upcoming Jan’14 auction .

The brand has appointed Deloitte to evaluate the opportunity and present a business case for Delhi. The success of the bid will enable the brand in gaining foothold in one of the most important locations in terms of strategic and potential importance to the brand.

Videocon Telecom is also seeing huge opportunity in the liberalized license regime and talks about unleashing the data opportunity in the telecom circle of Delhi NCR in a big way, where the 900 MHz spectrum will be the most efficient spectrum for a densely populated city like Delhi NCR.

Arvind Bali, director and CEO, Videocon Telecom said, “The sharp cut in the floor price for 900 MHz spectrum is very attractive, and particularly for Delhi telecom circle it makes a very lucrative business case. Delhi telecom circle is of an utmost importance to us, both  strategically and  potentially, and the fact the Delhi license will be available on 900 MHz spectrum completely fits in our strategic framework.”

Delhi is the hub of the Hindi speaking belt and northern corridor of the country and significantly compliments to our strategic footprint in the country added Bali.

The company has recently made a comeback into the telecom industry and has a strategic presence across the northern corridor of the country forming the Hindi speaking belt. The company has been making huge investments in the business and has successfully rolled out 3 out of 6 license acquired in Nov’12 auction. Videocon Telecom has a subscriber base of over 9 million subscribers within a year of operations, a testament to the brand’s customer focused strategy.
