Uninor pays Rs 845 cr, gets spectrum in 5 circles

uninor-spectrum-auctionUninor today said that it has got spectrum in five circles in the just concluded spectrum auction. The India arm of the Norwegian company Telenor will be paying Rs 844.7 crore for this spectrum. Uninor has got additional spectrum in four of its six existing circles in the 1800 MHz band. The circles are UP East, UP West, Bihar & Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh. Besides additional spectrum in these four circles, Uninor also got spectrum in one more new circle – Assam.

With this Uninor will now be present in total of seven circles, Gujarat and Maharashtra being the other two circles.

The company also said that in Gujarat and Maharashtra, it will improve capacity and coverage through a significant expansion of network sites. The company has already announced its largest ever network expansion of over 30% to be completed in 5 months. With the new circle of Assam, Uninor will now be able to potentially serve an additional population of more than 30 million, the company said.
