Umang Das Appointed Vice Chairman; TR Dua as DG, TAIPA

The executive committee of the Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA) has elevated Umang Das as vice chairman and TR Dua as director general with immediate effect.

“We were extremely impressed with the work done by TR Dua in the past years at TAIPA in his capacity as executive director,” said Akhil Gupta, chairman, TAIPA.

“TR Dua’s appointment comes at a crucial time for the association with the Indian telecom industry trying to capitalize upon the opportunities created in the light of the recently concluded spectrum auctions. Over the last years – and under the leadership of former Umang Das, TAIPA has expanded its role in supporting the unified vision of furthering the role of the country’s telecom infrastructure sector in creating a connected India. Our objective is to build on this foundation, strengthen our presence and visibility across India. I am confident that TR Dua will be able to successfully drive this vision,” added Gupta.

With TR Dua spearheading the association now, TAIPA’s aim will be to further spread its engagement deep and wide, across the country.”

On accepting the new responsibility TR Dua said, “Our Association has a strong role to play vis-a-vis policy makers and the broader stakeholder community in addressing the enabling policies for our sector’s competitiveness, while contributing to the goals of ‘Digital India’ in terms of connectivity, innovation, empowerment and employment.”

Dua, an engineering graduate with diploma in business management and export marketing, has an experience of over 35 years in the telecom sector and held very senior positions as a director in leading telecom companies like Bharti Airtel, Shyam Telecom and COAI. Besides holding key positions, he works very closely with institutions like ITU, APT, WWRF with regards to many issues like spectrum, climate change etc.
