Three Ireland to launch 4G LTE on January 27

Three Ireland today announced that it will launch its 4G service on January 27th, giving both bill pay and prepay customers 4G access until July 31st for free.

All Three customers with compatible phones will be able to experience the next generation of speeds without changing their tariff or SIM, subject to coverage. From August 1st, bill pay customers can continue to get 4G access by purchasing an add-on for €4.99 per month and our prepay offer will be revealed in the coming months.

“We are thrilled to announce details of what will be the best 4G offer on the market for all users, and in particular the first and only 4G service in the Irish market for Prepay customers,” said Elaine Carey, chief commercial officer, Three.

“Three already leads the market for data usage on smartphones and having 4G will mean that our customers can do even more on their smartphones,” added Carey.

At launch Three will offer significant coverage with over 60 percent coverage in the cities of Galway, Limerick and Waterford and 40 percent in Dublin and Cork. Total population coverage will grow quickly over the coming months and through 2014.

4G will transform data speeds, making downloading apps faster, watching videos on your phone smoother and photo uploads dramatically faster than on the current 3G network.

Customers with 4G handsets will be able to avail of Three’s 4G network after a quick software update for their phone that will be available for download in the coming weeks.

Mobile broadband customers can access 4G by purchasing a 4G Mi-Fi device, which will be available from January 27th. For those who wish to access 4G at home, a 4G home WiFi router will be available from March onward. Both of these devices are exclusive to Three.

3Stores already provide a wide range of 4G ready devices and this range will be expanded through 2014.
