Telecom and Postal Circles Inaugurated in Andhra Pradesh

As a step towards realizing Prime Minister Modi’s Digital India dream, new telecom and postal circles have been inaugurated in Andhra Pradesh yesterday.

The inauguration happened in the presence of Communications Minister Manoj Sinha, Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

While addressing the employees, Naidu spoke about the importance of strengthening and expanding the BSNL and postal networks for realizing the Digital India dream.

He shared how BSNL might lose to private telecom operators if the state-run telecom player fails to expand its reach and improve its quality of services in the country. He told PTI, “BSNL might face problems if it did not expand its cable network, install more towers, prevent call drops and render good services (to customers).”

Naidu also shared how post offices would evolve in future. He said that realizing the lack of commercial bank branches, the Centre will leverage the postal network platform to send welfare funds to the beneficiaries. “In the near future, payments under MG NREGP and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana will be made through post offices…Postal payments banks will soon be opened to make these payments as there are not many (commercial) bank branches,” he told PTI.

Chandrababu Naidu also made some interesting announcements. He announced that BSNL will be allotted five acres of land in the capital city Amaravati for its state headquarters. The chief minister also shared how the state wants to work with the BSNL for implementing the Fibre Grid Project, which aims to offer telephone, TV and Internet as an integrated service to the state residents. The costs of this service would begin from Rs 149 per month.
