Ex Uninor MD Sigve Brekke Appointed CEO of DTAC

sigve-brekkeSigve Brekke who once served as the managing director of Uninor has been appointed as the CEO of DTAC – Thailand’s second largest telecom operator. Brekke replaced Jon Eddy Abdullah who resigned from his position last week. Brekke will serve as interim CEO of dtac till a fulltime CEO is appointed.

Interestingly Brekke had served DTAC as a fulltime CEO in the past. He also had served as the MD of Uninor, Telenor’s India operations, till May 2013.

Thailand’s telecom operator Total Access Communication which is also called dtac in short has already started the process of finding a CEO. Dtac is owned by Telenor.

“Mr. Brekke has been asked to serve as the interim CEO of dtac until a new CEO has been identified. He has significant experience with dtac, currently acting on the Board of Directors as Vice Chairman and previously heading up the company as CEO from 2005 to 2008,” says Mr. Boonchai Bencharongkul who is the Chairman of dtac.

“dtac is in a strong position to capture market share and innovate to meet the growing demand for data services in Thailand. The company is firmly anchored to the strategy of delivering internet for all in Thailand and I look forward to contributing in my capacity as interim CEO,” says Sigve Brekke.

Though Sigve Brekke has taken over the position of dtac’s CEO, he will continue to serve in his role as the Executive Vice President and head of Telenor Group’s Asia operations.
