Samsung Bags 70k LTE BTS Order from Reliance Jio

Samsung has bagged another 50,000 – 70,000 LTE base station order from Reliance Jio Infocomm, India’s only pan India BWA (broadband wireless access) operator in the country says Credit Suisse.

According to industry insiders the deal is worth $350 – $490 million and this is the biggest deal of LTE in the country.

In addition to the original base station contract for 60,000 LTE units for the initial launch, Reliance Jio has awarded second contract for 50,000 – 70,000 base stations to Samsung says Sunil Tirumalai of Credit Suisse.

“We see a firm visibility of the network size crossing 100,000 base stations,” said Sunil.

Initially, Samsung bagged 20,000 LTE base stations from Reliance Jio Infocomm as reported by TeleAnalysis. The deal was worth $140 million.

In FY 2012-13, Samsung had bagged orders to deploy 7,000 LTE base stations for Reliance Jio Infocomm in Delhi, Mumbai and Jamnagar. The total deal was worth Rs 267 crore.
