Reliance Jio and Bharti Infratel to share towers

Reliance Jio can now access over 35,000 towers of Bharti Infratel

Reliance_JioMukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio Infocomm has signed an agreement with Bharti Airtel’s infrastructure arm Bharti Infratel to share the latter’s telecom towers. Under the agreement, Reliance Jio would utilize the telecom tower infrastructure of Bharti Infratel to launch its services across the country.

“This agreement is in line with our earlier comprehensive telecom infrastructure sharing arrangement with Bharti Airtel Limited aimed at avoiding duplication of infrastructure, wherever possible, and to preserve capital and the environment. The agreement will help us with the faster roll out of our services across the country,” said Sanjay Mashruwala, Managing Director, Reliance Jio.

Reliance Jio, the pan-India BWA license holder, is inching closer to launch its services in the country. It had got license to offer 4G services during the spectrum auction in 2010 but it is yet to roll out its services in the country. However, the company is in the process of developing the entire ecosystem for 4G service roll out.

D S Rawat, CEO – Bharti Infratel Limited said, “We are delighted with this agreement to offer our world-class telecom infrastructure to Reliance Jio. Our vast footprint and high network uptime levels will offer significant synergies of faster access to market and lower operational costs. The agreement would also benefit our existing customers with lower rentals and energy charges as a result of additional sharing. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Reliance Jio.”

Post this agreement, Reliance Jio will be able to use over 35,000 towers of Bharti Infratel to roll out its services.
