What Is Google Pixel?

Google Tuesday launched its next series of smartphones called Google Pixel, just like the Nexus series it had launched earlier. With Pixel, Google might shut down the Nexus branding all together, however, there has been no official statement on this.

India is among six other countries where the phone was launched yesterday, however the phones will be open for pre-booking from 13 October. Delivery of the Google Pixel would be done by the end of this month. The phone will be available at Flipkart as well as 1000 other large format retail stores (LFR) like Chroma, Reliance Digital and Vijay Sales. The Google Pixel price starts from Rs 57,000 for the 32 GB version. The price for other variants is not known yet.

The Pixel series of phone comes in two variants in terms of branding -Pixel and Pixel XL. The Pixel comes in 5 inch screen size whereas the XL version comes in 5.5 inch size. Both the devices have two variants basis their storage capacity – 32 GB and 128 GB. There must be some interesting logic why Google, like Apple, has stopped making phones with 64 GB space.

The Pixel comes in two colours – Quite Black and Very Silver.

The Google Pixel is entirely designed and made by Google. Though HTC is involved in making the phone there is no branding of the Taiwanese smartphone maker.

Though both the variants have some striking differences, they have some common features. Both the variants come with 4 GB RAM and either 32 GB or 128 GB internal storage capacity. They are powered by quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor – the latest from the San Diego chip maker, and is run on Android Nougat OS – the latest version. Both the Pixel variants come with 12.3 megapixel rear camera with PDAF and LDAF features with f/2.0 aperture.

There is an 8 megapixel front camera in both the Pixel smartphones with f/2.4 aperture and fixed focus capabilities that helps in taking good quality selfies.

Here are some differences between the two models.

Besides the size of 5 inch on Pixel and 5.5 inch on Pixel XL, the display for the former is FHD Amoled with 441 ppi whereas it is QHD Amoled with 534 ppi for the latter. The battery capacity of Google Pixel is 2770 mAh whereas for the Pixel XL it stands at 3450 mAh.
