JioPhone 2 Launched With WhatsApp, YouTube And Facebook Feature

Reliance Industries today launched the second and advanced version of its hugely successful JioPhone.  Named JioPhone 2, the phone comes with all the existing features of its predecessor and added the much awaited features like WhatsApp, YouTube and Facebook in it.

These three popular apps were missing in the older version and there was a huge demand from the customers for these apps. The first JioPhone was launched in July last year and it has sold 25 million units so far.

The JioPhone 2 that was launched will be available from 15 August this year and the phone is priced at Rs 2,999.

So, what is new in the JioPhone 2?

Besides the WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube integration in the new device, the JioPhone 2 comes with many more features.

To start with the JioPhone 2 comes with a bigger display screen unlike its predecessor. It has got a QWERTY keypad that is more convenient to use as against the keypad that was in the first JioPhone. Plus, the device comes with a horizontal screen which offers  a better display experience and can house more apps on the home screen. In addition, it helps in viewing images or videos in a more conventional way.

The phone runs on KaiOS, as was the first one, and has 512 MB RAM and 4 GB of internal storage space. This capacity can be enhanced up to 128 GB using micro SD cards. The phone offers dual SIM functionality but its not clear if its compatible with SIMs of other service providers.

The JioPhone 2 also comes with FM, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS and NFC. However, if the phone can act as a WiFi hotspot is not known yet. We will update you once we get our hand on this device.

The JioPhone 2 is an LTE enabled device and works on dual band LTE. Like its predecessor, the new phone also works on voice command, means users can talk to the phone to activate a function or feature. For example, users can ask the phone in their local language, say to open WhatsApp, and the phone will launch that application.

Mukesh Amabni, Chairman of Reliance Industries highlighted these feature during the company’s 41st AGM (annual general meeting). On voice command he said JioPhone has received over 22 crore voice commands in lasst one year. The JioPhone 2 also comes with this function.
