MICA, fashion accessory with communications capabilities

MICA is a premium feminine fashion accessory with communications capabilities that can be used for work or entertainment. It enables users to stay connected via SMS messages, meeting alerts and general notifications without the need to pair with a smartphone.

AT&T announced today an agreement with Intel to deliver wireless data service as the exclusive network provider for MICA, My Intelligent Communication Accessory.

MICA, which was designed by Opening Ceremony and engineered by Intel, will be available at Barneys New York and Opening Ceremony by holiday 2014.

“MICA is unlike any other product we’ve connected before and it stands alone in terms of design and functionality,” said Chris Penrose, senior vice president, Emerging Device.

“This is a product that puts fashion first while allowing users to remain connected,” added Penrose.

“MICA is a truly fashionable wearable that connects women to the information they need, when they need it, via notifications and alerts sent directly to the wrist,” said Ayse Ildeniz, vice president, New Devices, Intel.

“MICA ushers in a new era converging fashion and technology by integrating a woman’s luxury accessory with technology in order to complement and enhance a woman’s work and social life,” added Ildeniz.
