Most Call Drops Complaints Are On Airtel Network : Minister

Airtel, the largest telecom operator in India, is also the biggest generator of call drops in the country. Simply put, customers are facing the maximum number of call drops in its network. A recent data said Airtel gets the highest number of customer complaints for call drops and network related issues.

In 2018 calendar year, till 5th December, more than half of all consumer complaints regarding call drops were registered against Airtel, said telecom minister Manoj Sinha in a written reply in Lok Sabha.

A total of 1073 customer complaints of call drops were received at TRAI in 2018 and of that 543 are on Airtel alone – the highest. The second highest such complaints were on Vodafone network with 290 complaints. Reliance Jio and Idea Cellular network have received 96 and 95 customer complaints respectively in the said period, Sinha said citing TRAI data.

It is to be remembered that these numbers only represent the number of complaints received by TRAI and do not give an exact number of call drops faced by the customers. This could be much more than reported.

Of all the complaints against Airtel, the maximum number were registered in Delhi – a total of 129. Jio’s maximum number of complaints were also registered in Delhi circle – a total of 13. Vodafone, on the other hand, had faced maximum complaints in Mumbai – 88 and Idea had the maximum number of complaints in Maharashtra with 27 such complaints.

A total of 220 call drop complaints were registered from Delhi circle – highest among India’s 22 circles.

If we take complaints pertaining to call drops as well as network issues, Bharti Airtel again tops the list with 482 complaints followed by Reliance Jio with 398 such complaints. BSNL with 312 customer complaints is the third worst network and Vodafone and Idea are placed at fourth and fifth place with 203 and 118 such complaints.

The minister, however, said call drops can happen due to multiple reasons including non-availability of sites, sealing of telecom towers and characteristics of radio wave propagation.
