Reliance Jio 4G Data Speed Drops To Half That Of Bharti Airtel

Reliance Jio’s much hyped 4G data services is turning out to be damp squib as the its data speed is continuously going down. A recent report suggested that it has reached to half of Airtel’s 4G data speed – a clear indication that while Airtel augmented its 4G network across circles, Jio focused on acquiring customers only.

While Bharti airtel’s 4G data speed hovered around 11.5 mbps across circles, Reliance Jio 4G reduced to 6 mbps, reports CLSA, a market analysis firm.

During October, while Bharti Airtel improved 4G speeds and expanded its 4G service to 19 of the total 22 markets, Reliance Jio saw a fall in data speeds across 17 markets to average 6Mbps, which is comparable to the speeds of Idea Cellular and Vodafone and nearly that half of Bharti Airtel.

In its report named Quality of Service Tracker, the firm said during October Bharti Airtel and Idea have improved their data networks which resulted in better 4G speed, whereas Reliance Jio and Vodafone have seen decrease in their data speed.

Last month, Bharti Airtel saw an increase in speeds in 10 of its 16 4G markets and also expanded its 4G service to cover 19 of the total 22 markets. Similarly Idea Cellular also reported an increase in 4G speeds in six of its 10 4G markets and expanded its services to cover 11 markets during the month.

In contrast, Reliance Jio saw a 4G data speed fall of 20% from 7.2 mbps in September to 6 mbps in October.

“Meanwhile, we are encouraged by 4G network outperformance delivered by Bharti Airtel and maintain that network outperformance will be key to market share gains,” the firm said.

The firm, CLSA, did its 4G data speed analysis basis data submitted to TRAI by the telecom operators and the company featured the top four firms in its Quality of Service tracker.
