US Wants To Kill Chinese Business : China Reacts Over Huawei Issue

Shortly after the US Department of Justice indicted Huawei with multiple charges, the Chinese government reacted strongly and said the US wants to ‘kill Chinese businesses.’

“For some time now, the United States has deployed its state power to smear and crack down on targeted Chinese companies in an attempt to kill their normal and legal business operations,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said in a statement.

The US prosecutors on Monday indicted Huawei with slew of charges including trade secret theft and financial fraud. The Chinese government has, from the very beginning, has vehemently refuted all the allegations.

The spokesperson also said that China could see the US’ ‘strong political motives and manipulation’ behind all these charges.

The age-old cold war between the two global powers, from all fronts – economy, technology and defence – took a new shape since Canada arrested Huawei founder’s daughter and the company’s CFO Meng last month on the request of the US. Though she was arrested and released shortly after, she continues to under house arrest and has wear an ankle tracker.

The US is in the process of requesting extradition of Meng from Canada.

“We strongly urge the US to stop its unreasonable crackdown on Chinese companies, including Huawei, and treat Chinese companies objectively and fairly,” Geng said Tuesday. He added that Beijing will “firmly safeguard the legitimate and proper rights” of Chinese companies.
