Deadline For Mandatory Testing Of Telecom Equipment Deferred To April 2019

The Department of Telecom or DoT has extended the deadline for mandatory testing of some telecom equipment to April 2019 from the earlier date of October 2018. This will be applicable on all equipment that are imported to India or are sold in the country.

“The following telecom equipment imported or sold in India on or after 1.4.2019 shall be subjected to testing and certification as envisaged in the Indian Telegraph Rules 2017,” TEC said in a circular.

The telecom equipment that will go through mandatory testing from 1 April, 2019 include BTS, mobile phones, IoT devices, GPON, signalling equipment, DSL equipment, routers, LAN switches and PABX equipment, DoT said in this in a circular via TEC.

However, there are some other telecom gears, that would go through the mandatory testing starting 1 January 2019.

These equipment include modem, audio conferencing, fax machines, ISDN CPEs, radio and transmission products including microwave, UHF, VHF, MRTS equipment and satellite equipment. Besides, WiFi access points and controllers, multiplexing equipment and cordless phone will also go through testing from 1 January 2019, TEC, the nodal agency of DOT added in the circular.
