Industry Supports Digital India; to Announce Billions of Investment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is launching Digital India on Ist of July and the industry has come in full support with the likely announcement of billions of dollars of investments in electronics manufacturing and Digital India.

The investments in electronics manufacturing and Digital India will result in employment to several lakhs of people.

The Digital India event would be attended by stalwarts of ICT industry such as Cyrus P Mistry, chairman, Tata Sons; Mukesh D Ambani, chairman & MD, Reliance Industries; Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman and group CEO, Bharti Enterprises; Kumaramangalam Birla, chairman, Aditya Birla Group; Anil Ambani, chairman, Reliance Group; Anil Agarwal, chairman, Sterlite Technologies; Ping Cheng, CEO, Delta Electronics; Azim Premji, chairman, Wipro; Hari Om Rai, chairman & MD, LAVA International; Peter Gutsmeidl, CEO, Airbus Group; Pawan Munjal, chairman, Hero Group; and Mikio Katayama, vice chairman, Nidec.

Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “The Digital India Week to be launched by the prime minister Narendra Modi on 1st July, 2015 aims at encouraging people’s involvement and creating awareness among them.”

Digital Locker System aims to minimize the usage of physical documents and enable sharing of e-documents across agencies

Swachh Bharat Mission Mobile App would be used by people and government organisations for achieving the goals of Swachh Bharat Mission

eSign Framework would allow citizens to digitally sign a document online using Aadhaar authentication

Online Registration System (ORS) under the eHospital application provides important services such as online registration, payment of fees and appointment, online diagnostic reports, enquiry of blood reports

National Scholarships Portal, a one stop solution for end to end scholarship process right from submission of student application, verification, sanction and disbursal

Digitize India Platform for large scale digitization of records facilitating efficient delivery of services to the citizens

WiFi Hotspots deployment by BSNL throughout the country

BPO Policy to create BPO centres in North Eastern states and also in smaller/mofussil towns of other states

Electronics Development Fund (EDF) aims to promote innovation, R&D, product development and to create a resource pool of IP within the country

National Centre for Flexible Electronics (NCFlexE) is an initiative to promote research and innovation in the emerging area of flexible electronics

IoT Centre of Excellence is a joint initiative of department of electronics & information technology (DeitY), ERNET and NASSCOM

The vision of Digital India is centred on three key areas – Digital infrastructure as a utility to every citizen; governance & services on demand; and digital empowerment of citizens. The vision also aims at inclusive growth in areas of electronic services, products, manufacturing and job opportunities.

Digital India will help in delivering citizen services electronically and improve the way citizens and authorities transact with each other using broadband highways. While connectivity is one criterion, enabling and providing technologies to facilitate delivery of services to citizens forms the other.
