Indian operators deploying 100G

Indian operators are deploying 100G in a big way as all operators are gearing towards creating broadband infrastructure. With 3G services picking up and operators planning 4G deployment in FY 2013-14, the operators have no other option but to deploy 100G to take care of future data explosion.

Relaince Jio Infocomm (RJIL) and Tata Communications have deployed 100G equipment from Alcatel-Lucent. Alcatel-Lucent has provided 100G equipment to Tata Communications for a period of three years. As part of modernisation process, Tata Communications is planning to upgrade its transmission network with 100G. Alcatel-Lucent has also bagged 100G NLD deal from Reliance Jio, a pan India BWA (broadband wireless access) operator planning to start limited broadband services in December, 2013.

Idea and Vodafone is also upgrading its transmission network and is deploying 100G equipment from Huawei. Both the deals are for enhancing the capacity of long distance network. Idea currently has over 74,000 km fibre cable transmission network to tap the future potential of wireless broadband. Idea is also expanding OFC PoPs and presently has over 2,308 PoPs (Points of Presence) in 128 cities & linked highways and the network plans to serve the broadband requirement of 3G and ISP network.

Ciena has secured some significant 100G wins like Reliance Globalcom and Tata Communications. Reliance Globalcom is upgrading its trans-Atlantic FA-1 South submarine with 100G. This upgrade will help Globalcom to better address growing global bandwidth demand for cloud computing, video and other high-bandwidth services, along the critical trans-Atlantic corridor.

Tata Communications has deployed 100G on its TGN-Atlantic (TGN-A) subsea cable system deployed from New York to London. The upgrade will deliver bandwidth and provide flexibility to carriers and enterprises to scale their network seamlessly and meet their increasing capacity demands, driven by the use of cloud computing and mobile devices, as well as other high-bandwidth services including music/HD video downloading and social networking applications. It will be instrumental in increasing carrier network performance through consolidation of transport traffic.

Operators like RCOM, Aircel and Bharti Airtel are also in the process of finalizing 100G equipment to meet the increasing data demand. The earlier these transmission deals are finalized, subscribers can expect a better network quality in days to come. All the other operators will have no option but to join the 100G bandwagon at the earliest.
