Idea Q1 net nearly doubles to Rs 462 crore

Idea Cellular’s net profit for the quarter ended June 30 nearly doubled to touch Rs 462 crore from Rs 234 crore for the same period a year back.

Similarly the company’s gross revenue rose more than 18% to touch Rs 6538 crore for the review period compared to Rs 5503 crore in the same quarter previous fiscal.

This growth can be attributed to the overall growth of the company in voice and data services.
By the end of the quarter Idea Cellular’s total subscriber based had touched 125 million compared to 117.2 million a year ago. Its 3G subscriber base has grown to 5.5 million from 3.1 million at the end of June 30 2012. The company has also gained significantly from the tariff hikes it made in the past as its ARPU for the quarter touched Rs 174 as against Rs 156 during the same quarter in the last fiscal.

Idea Cellular’s total data consumption surged more than 92% during this quarter to register 13791 million MB compared to 7175 million MB during the same period last fiscal.

The company also saw a growth in 3G ARPU, touching Rs 109 during the June quarter compared to Rs 89 for the same period a year back.
