HMD Global CEO Arto Nummela Quits With Immediate Effect

HMD Global, the ‘home’ of Nokia phones now, or the company that sells the iconic Nokia phones, today said its CEO Arto Nummela has stepped down from the company. CEOs of companies do step down but whats intriguing is Nummela is stepping down and leaving the company with ‘immediate effect’.

“Through mutual agreement between Chief Executive Officer Arto Nummela and the HMD Global Board of Directors, Arto Nummela will leave HMD with immediate effect,” the company said in a statement in a late evening development.

The ‘immediate effect’ thing in Nummela’s resignation hints not all is well at the company that recently made waves in the global market with the relaunch of Nokia phones including the iconic Nokia 3310.

”Arto Nummela has played a key role in the creation of the HMD Global operation, building the team and launching our first products. On behalf of the whole Board, I thank Arto for his contribution and wish him well in his future endeavors,” said Sam Chin, Chairman of the Board, HMD Global Oy, on the development.

In addition to his current role as President, Florian Seiche has been appointed to the role of acting CEO, starting immediately. Florian has been co-leading HMD Global as President since the start of the company.

Just a day back the company had launched couple of devices – Nokia 105 and Nokia 130 – in the market.
