Cyan bags smart meter contracts from Tata Power and ESSEL Utilities

Cyan has bagged smart meter contracts from Tata Power and ESSEL Utilities for 5,000 meters each.

Tata Power is planning to implement 5,000 smart meters in Mumbai in the first week of September and the contract has been given to L&T. On the other hand, ESSEL Utilities is planning to deploy 5,000 smart meters in Muzaffarpur and Nagpur.

“The first two commercial orders are significant for us as they allow us to demonstrate the effectiveness of Cyan’s solution for the Indian market. We have invested a lot in developing solutions that are suitable for Indian conditions and we are working closely with various industry stakeholders in bringing these solutions to Indian utilities. We also expect the smart metering industry momentum to pick up in India on the back of these projects going live,” said Shiv Kaushik, country manager, Cyan Technology India.

Cyan is an integrated system design company based in Cambridge, UK and provides communication platform that reduces energy consumption for the metering and lighting markets. Our wireless mesh networking platform offers ‘last mile’ connectivity between millions of devices and enterprise software.

CyLec is Cyan’s integrated solution for smart metering deployments, providing a migration path through Automated Meter Reading (AMR) to full Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). It is dedicated to electricity metering and is optimized for range, data communications, interoperability and security.

“We have also been part of a number of smart metering pilots running in India and the early results are satisfying. We feel that the Indian smart metering industry is about to gain significant traction in the coming months,” added Kaushik.
