In Africa, Airtel Merges With Telkom Kenya, Forms Airtel Telkom

Bharti Airtel’s Kenyan business unit Airtel Kenya has merged with Telkom Kenya, a semi-privatised telecom operator in South Africa. Both the firms have signed an agreement in this regard, Airtel’s India unit said in a statement today.

The combined entity will merge Mobile, Enterprise and Carrier Services businesses and create an integrated telco offering greater choice and convenience for consumers and business customers.

The new new entity will be called as Airtel Telkom, the operator added in the statement.

As per the agreement, both the partners will combine their operations in Kenya and establish an entity with enhanced scale, operational efficiency and strategic brand presence. The entity will invest in networks to further accelerate roll out of future technologies. The Enterprise and Carrier Services businesses should benefit from a larger fibre footprint and an increased number of enterprise customers – including both large corporations and SMEs who would have access to a diverse portfolio of world-class solutions.
