Coolpad CEO Syed Resigns, Company May Close India Biz

Chinese smartphone company Coolpad might close its India operations very soon. Like many other brands including Chinese and Indian, this company is on its way out from India owing to tough market conditions led by multiple factors. According to some insiders the company’s India CEO Syed Tajuddin is also believed to have resigned from the company.

An official confirmation, however, is awaited. Syed neither confirmed or denied the development.

If Coolpad closes its India operations, it would be the second Chinese smartphone brand to officially shut shops this year. The other one is Comio that informed its partners of a closure last month.

If one observes closely, Coolpad closing its operations will not surprise him. The firm has remained conspicuously invisible for almost two years now, only to launch couple of products yesterday.

Last 12 months were not so good for Coolpad. When  other Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo, Vivo and OnePlus are busy making waves in the Indian market with their new and innovative products, this Chinese brand went silent and only launched limited amount of devices in 2018 and that too not performed well due to lack of marketing and competitive product portfolio.

According to company sources besides its  India CEO. Syed Tajuddin, many other key team members have also resigned form Coolpad. Last July they shut down their Bangalore office and also ended contracts with some partners in marketing, distribution and public relations.

Today they have also quietly launched 3 new devices – Mega 5, Mega 5M and Mega 5C in India  through offline market. But as most of the smartphone retailer and distributors are already very scared due to some unexpected closure of brands and faced huge losses. It will be very challenging for Coolpad to convince offline channel partners for its new device portfolio.
