Expects Rs 2000 crore turnover in FY15

celkon-mobilesCelkon Mobiles, a Hyderabad based mobile phone maker, has seen its smartphone business grew almost two fold in the just concluded fiscal.

The revenue from Celkon Mobile’s smartphone business grew 198% in FY13-14 to touch Rs 429 crore compared to Rs 144 crore in Fy2012-13. The total revenue of the company grew to Rs 834 crore in FY13-14 as opposed to Rs 600 crore one year ago.

This means that smartphone sales contribute more than half of its overall revenue, or almost 51%.

This is pretty encouraging for the company which is not, at this moment, a national player and is dominant in some of the South Indian markets.

“Keeping up the upward trend and growth in smartphone segment, we are planning to make Rs.2000 crore turnover in the current fiscal year,” Celkon Mobile’s CMD Y.Guru told TeleAnalysis.

When asked the reasons behind this massive growth in smartphone sales, Guru said ‘reasons are many.’

“One, the industry is seeing a huge demand for smartphones and its growing at 70 to 80% over the year, two, Celkon has became a reliable name for its customers over the years after our massive brand campaigns,” he added.

However, the most important factor he attributed to his growth was the new segments created by the industry of smartphone purchase.

“The smartphones belong to Rs 5000 to Rs 10,000 price band is a new phenomenon, and we are seeing a huge growth in this segment,” he added.

The company, though very strong in Andhra Pradesh market, is growing in other markets as well. Some of the new markets where the company saw momentum were Karnataka, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and UP East.

Celkon Mobiles sold 6.2 million mobile phones, both feature phones and smartphones, compared to 4.4 million sales in Fy2012-13. The company expects to increase its sell volume to 10 million in this current fiscal.
