State run telecom operator BSNL, too, will join the 4G bandwagon and launch the ultra high speed data services on LTE technology by year end.

“Yes, we are interested in the 4G space, and are planning to offer the services by year end,” BSNL CMD Anupam Shrivastava told TeleAnalysis during a Q&A session at the Digital India Conclave 2015.

He was speaking at the conclave on May 22 organised by TeleAnalysis.

“We have put our infrastructure in place and will start the pilots in couple of months,” he added.

The company will roll out the 4G services on 2800 MHz and 800 MHz spectrum band.

BSNL had bought 4G spectrum in 2300 MHz band during the spectrum auction held in 2010 but it had returned the same airwaves to the government. Further, the government had announced in January 2014 to refund BSNL the money it had paid for the spectrum.

BSNL had Rs 6724.51 crore for the 4G spectrum which will now be refunded to the state run operator.

A month back BSNL CMD Shrivastava had told TeleAnalysis that the telco is planning to invest around Rs 7,000 crore to upgrade its 3G and 4G network including WiFi infrastructure.

At present, BSNL offers high speed data services in WiMax technology besides the on the traditional DSL and ADSL based broadband technology. However, BSNL;s WiMax services are offered in pockets and not very wide spread.

With the 4G services on LTE technology, combined with its data services on WiMax and WiFi, BSNL appears to be well placed to compete with data operators like Relaince Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone.

  1. BSNL top management wants to share all infrastructure to private operators for their profit.Corporate culture of BSNL is most corrupted.Modi ji vows to eradicate corruption. Nothing is changed in BSNL. Higher officers caught by CBI red handed are given choice posting. Is there any vigilance in BSNL? The middle management (AGM/SDE) who are assets and execute field work are harrased by transfer. There is a racket of corruption in corp office in cancelling transfer orders. Transfered officers are returned back to home circle after giving bribe inspite completion of tenure. They are totally frustrated.
