State run operator BSNL will be signing an agreement with Nokia for 5G and internet of things (IoT) technologies. This agreement will be signed at the ongoing Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona.
“BSNL will sign an MoU with Nokia on knowledge sharing on 5G & IoT applications at Mobile World Congress Barcelona,” tweeted BSNL CMD Anupam Shrivastava.
Shrivastava is in Barcelona to represent the operator at the MWC 2017. Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri is also in Barcelona. The proposed MoU will be signed between the two leaders at the global event.
BSNL offers mobile services on all available technologies – 2G, 3G and 4G. Besides, the government run operator also offers broadband services on fixedline as well as on WiMax technology.
As a natural evolution, BSNL would like to upgrade its network adhering to 5G networks and offer the next generation services based on IoT. Nokia will help the Indian operator in its transition towards 5G networks.
According to a report by PTI, the pact between these two firms will involve joint 5G demonstration, trials of various IoT applications and services meeting the requirements of the ever increasing IoT industry. Both the parties will also conduct workshops and draw a framework on how to graduate to a 5G network.
