BlackBerry To Bring Virtual SIM Solution To India

blackberry-movirtuCanadian smartphone maker BlackBerry on Thursday introduced, not launched, the mobile virtual SIM solution for the Indian market. The virtual SIM solution would take out the hassle of carrying multiple physical SIM cards in a single mobile device but will the user to use up to nine mobile numbers in a single smartphone.

“We are all set, ready to launch the service but awaiting few official clearance from the government,” BlackBerry’s India MD Sunil Lalvani said.

The BlackBerry virtual SIM solution is platform agnostic means one can use this service on any smartphone, be it Android, Windows, Apple or BlackBerry. User just needs to download the app from the app store and can add up to 9 virtual numbers to his mobile phone.

In September last year Blackberry had acquired Movirtu, a London based technology firm, that develops the virtual SIM solution. Interestingly, the application was designed in Movirtu’s Noida facility, the only such facility the company has outside of UK.

Lalvani said he is hoping to launch the services by the second half of this year. The solution has already been rolled out some countries including Africa.

With this solution Blackberry aims at providing some customised services to enterprises as well as end users.
