Bharti Airtel buys 100 percent stake in Qualcomm’s subsdiary

Bharti Airtel, a leading global telecommunications services provider with operations in 20 countries across Asia and Africa, today said that it has completed the acquisition of 100 percent equity shares of Wireless Business Services Private Limited (WBSPL), a subsidiary of Qualcomm.

Bharti Airtel bought 49 percent in WBSPL in May, 2012 for $165 million. The company has been increasing its stake in tranches, Bharti increased its stake to 51 percent in July 2013, followed by 93.5 percent in August, 2013 and has now completed 100 percent buyout of WBSPL.

Wireless Business Services holds BWA Spectrum in the Indian telecom circles of Mumbai, Delhi, Haryana and Kerala. With this, WBSPL has become a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharti. Bharti Airtel also has BWA licenses in Kolkata, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Punjab circles.
