mAadhaar App For Android Launched, All You Need To Know

Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched mAadhaar app for Android platform. This app allows Android smartphone users to carry their information on their smartphone. To use the mAadhaar app users need to registration with UIDAI, which is a one time process and can be done by visiting a Aadhaar Kendra(center). It is a one time process and also allows users to change address online, or update any other information, for which supporting document will need to be uploaded).

Once the app is installed and registration complete user does not to carry physical card and the app itself shows data such has name, date of birth, gender, address and the photograph on the device.

The mAadhaar app, is currently available only for Android users and iOS version is expected to launch soon. One of the most important feature of the app is that it allows users to lock or unlock biometrics data. “Once resident enables Biometric Locking system their biometric remains locked till the Aadhaar Holder chose to either Unlock it (which is temporary) or Disable the Locking system.” Interestingly, the mAadhaar app also comes with “Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP)” feature that can be used instead of SMS-based OTP.

With the mAadhaar app, users will be able to get the updated view of the profile upon completion of the update request and they will even be able to share QR code and password protected eKYC data to retrieve accurate demographic information from it instead of manual entry.

However, the app is currently in beta or testing stage, and some of the features will be made available post future updates. Recently government has made it mandatory to for anyone who has a PAN card to provide their Aadhaar number to the principal director general of income tax (systems) or DGIT (systems).
