Apple sells 9 million iPhones in 3 days

Apple today said it has sold more than nine million iPhones in just three days of its launch. The new devices from Apple -iPhone 5S and 5C- were launched on September 20 and was made available in markets like the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK. Apple said its a new record for the company and the demand for the 5s exceeded the initial supply.

For a comparison, it exceeded the 3.7 million smartphones BlackBerry sold in the entire second quarter.

“This is our best iPhone launch yet―more than nine million new iPhones sold―a new record for first weekend sales,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.

“The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone,” Cook added.

Besides, the company also said that there are more than 200 million iOS devices are upgraded to Apple’s latest operating software iOS 7.

For the record, both the new devices – 5s and 5c, run on iOS7 that is completely redesigned with new color palettes and some new features like control center, notification center and AirDrop.
