Airtel Rolls Out LTE Advanced Network In Kerala

lte-advanced-airtelAirtel on Sunday added one more ‘first’ to its list of many such moves when the company launched its first LTE Advanced network in Kerala. With this, the company also became the first operator in India to offer the LTE Advanced that can offer more than 100 mbps data speed.

LTE Advanced is a technology where different 4G bands can be aggregated to get a better spectrum efficiency as well as to offer very high-speed data. This is also called as carrier aggregation.

“Using the carrier aggregation technology and combining the capacities of TD LTE (2300 MHz spectrum band) and FD LTE (1800 MHz spectrum band), data speeds of up to 135 Mbps have been delivered on commercially available mobile devices on Airtel’s 4G network in Kerala,” Airtel said in a statement.

Airtel was the first operator in India to launch the 4G or LTE services in 2012.

The LTE Advanced network was deployed in Kerala on a live 4G network and the company said a data speed of 135 mbps was witnessed on a 4G mobile phone during the commercial launch.

Nokia Networks is the telecom equipment supplier for this network roll out, Airtel said.

“This is a game changer for mobile broadband in India. Airtel has pioneered 4G deployment in India and we are delighted to raise the innovation benchmark to deliver a world-class experience to our customers. Our strong 4G footprint and a rapidly maturing device ecosystem, will now allow us to deliver the next level of high speed mobile data services on our network,”Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal said.

The deployment is a part of Airtel’s ongoing network transformation program – Project Leap. Under this project Airtel plans to invest Rs 60,000 crore over the next three years to meet the growing demand of voice and high speed data services in India and deliver the best network experience to its customers.
