Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, ZTE And OnePlus Making 5G Smartphones Using Qualcomm Platform

In line with the industry’s move towards 5G, a plethora of Chinese smartphone makers Thursday announced their plans to develop 5G smartphones. Brands like Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, ZTE and Xiaomi are already started developing 5G smartphones using Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 Mobile platform.

This announcement came from Qualcomm at its annual Snapdragon Technology Summit where the San Diego headquartered technology firm also unveiled its 5G mobile platform.

“China Mobile Communication Group Device Co and leading Chinese OEMs, including Xiaomi, OnePlus, OPPO, Vivo and ZTE, are developing 5G mobile devices featuring the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform using the Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem family,” Qualcomm said in a statement.

The demo devices will be displayed during the upcoming China Mobile Global Partner Conference in Guangzhou. Besides the 5G smartphones Qualcomm and the Chinese OEMs will also showcase a customer premise equipment (CPE), the statement added.

“Qualcomm Technologies is working closely with the Chinese ecosystem to provide transformative 5G user experiences using our solutions Incorporated. “Earlier this year we announced the ‘5G Pioneer’ Initiative together with leading Chinese manufacturers, and the completion of 5G connections using OEM devices based on the Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform is a major achievement for this initiative. We will continue to enable customers in China and across the globe to help China’s smartphone industry seize the global opportunities coming with 5G in 2019,” said Cristiano Amon, president, Qualcomm.

Xiaomi has been continuing our close collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies and operators in accelerating 5G development,” said Bin Lin, co-founder and president, Xiaomi. “As an important participant in the ‘5G Pioneer’ Initiative of Qualcomm Technologies, Xiaomi has completed the 5G signal and data connection as well as the 5G mmWave throughput test utilizing the Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform, which prepares us for 5G smartphone launch next year.”

The Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform, paired with the Snapdragon X50 5G modem and Qualcomm® QTM052 mmWave antenna modules with integrated RF transceiver, RF front-end and antenna elements, allows Chinese OEMs to participate in the global 5G opportunity by addressing the exponential increase in device design complexity that comes with the next-generation of mobile technology, supporting their launch of commercial premium 5G smartphones in 2019.
