Aping Jio, Airtel Launches Bundled 4G Smartphone Offer At Rs 1399

Following the footsteps of Reliance Jio, Airtel today brought out a bundled data offer combining it with a smartphone at an effective cost of Rs 1399. The operator launched the offer with a smartphone from Karbonn, named A40 Indian, which is originally priced at Rs 3499.

Couple of months back Jio had introduced a similar offer with JioPhone where the customers need to pay a security deposit of Rs 1500 to own a 4G phone and the money will be refunded to the users after 3 years.

The major difference between these two offers is JioPhone is 4G feature phone, though capable of most smartphone functions, and Airtel’s is a true smartphone, though with basic specifications.

In the plan offered by Airtel, taken under a new initiative called ‘Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone’, meaning ‘my first 4G smartphone, the consumers need to pay Rs  2899 to own the Karbonn A40 Indian smartphone and are expected to recharge with a plan of Rs 169 for the next 36 months.

Only if they do this, the customers will be eligible to get a refund of Rs 1500, making the effective cost of the phone to be Rs 1399 or (Rs 2899-1500).

“In case the customer does not wish to opt for the Rs 169 bundled plan, she/he has the flexibility of doing recharges of any denomination and validity as per individual requirements. However, to claim the cash refund benefit, recharges worth Rs 3000 must be done within the first 18 months (to claim the first refund installment of Rs 500) and another Rs 3000 over the next 18 months (to claim the second refund installment of Rs 1000),” Airtel said in a statement.

As far ass the technical specifications of the Karbonn A40 Indian is concerned, the smartphone comes with a 4 inch display screen and is powered by 1.3 Ghz processor. The phone has 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage capacity.

The dual SIM 4G phone has 3 megapixel rear camera and 0.3 megapixel front camera and the device carries an 1400 mAh battery.
