222 commercial LTE networks launched

According to GSA, 222 commercial networks are launched in 83 countries.

This latest update confirms 421 firm LTE network deployments are planned or in progress in 128 countries. A further 53 operators in 10 additional countries are engaged in pre-commercial LTE technology pilot trials, tests or studies. Taken together, it means that 474 operators in 138 countries are now investing in LTE.

GSA forecasts there will be 260 commercial LTE networks in 93 countries by end 2013. LTE is the fastest developing mobile system technology ever and is now mainstream. The total number of LTE subscriptions reached 126.1 millions by 30 June 2013.

94 operators have commercially launched LTE1800 (band 3) systems in 51 countries either as a single band system, or as part of a multi-band deployment. 1800 MHz is the most widely used band for LTE deployments globally, and in use on around 43 percent of the world’s LTE networks today. The next most widely used band for LTE deployments is 2.6 GHz.

23 LTE TDD systems are commercially launched (within the total of 222 commercial networks). 11 of them are deployed in combined LTE FDD and TDD operations.
