How do you see the Indian mobile phone/tablet industry for the current calendar year? What are some of the biggest trends and developments you saw during this period?
Consumers are driving the wave of adoption of low-cost tablets as a preferred mobility solution. People of all age and gender are adopting affordable smart devices in their daily life. Besides, we are also witnessing a higher inclination of consumers towards online buying platforms and brands are keeping up with the trend.

How has been the CY 2015 (till date) for you? Can you share some of your company’s biggest achievements, innovations or milestones during this year?
Nearly 1.36 million tablet PCs were sold in the Q3 CY 2015 and we share majority of the pie. According to CMR’s India Quarterly Tablet PC Market Review, Pantel Technologies has emerged as the undisputed leader in Indian tablet market for the time period of Q3 (July-Sep) 2015 with a sizeable lead over its nearest competitor.

Pantel has been pioneer in launching many ‘India’s First’ innovative products in the market like 4G enabled tablets, 8” tablets at affordable price. Recently, we have also introduced Windows 10-based tablet Penta WS802X in partnership with Intel and Microsoft. We are first to introduce Wi-Fi tablet at a price range of Rs 2,999 and 3G calling tablet at Rs 3,999 in the Indian market. Besides, Pantel has also partnered with Orange, Mauritius Telecom, BSNL, CDAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) and Department of Posts.

How many phones you launched during this period? Can you give a break up of smart phones and feature phones? And tablets, if any?
We have launched many innovative tablets in Indian market like Ultra 4G, WS704DX, WS704Q, WS802Q, WS802X, Xtreme X1, 10” Device with Intel and Microsoft, 10.6” convertible tablet. Besides, we have also launched feature phones like PF100, PF300 and PF301. Pantel has made the latest in technology accessible to the Indian customers value-for-money pricing. We share a vision to reach one and all without compromising on their budget and connect the mass with the Digital India initiative.

What was the ASP of your devices during this period?
During CY 2015 so far, our ASP is Rs 5500.

What was your best selling phone/device in this period?
The best selling device was IS701Q, IS701D and WS802X.

Of your sales, what would be the ratio for offline and online distribution? And who are your online retailers?
We are retailing our products both offline as well as online and the ratio for the same is 60:40. Besides, we also sell through HomeShop18.

If you have participated in the Make In India program, how much investment you made to start local manufacturing/assembly and what would be the product output capacity annually?
Firstly, we would like to mention that Pantel fully supports Make in India initiative as it is a very enterprising concept by the new government, which can catapult India into top manufacturing economies of the world. Pantel is ramping up its local manufacturing capacity in its two manufacturing units based out of Roorkee, Uttarakhand to meet the growing demand of Penta products in the market. The annual product output capacity is 2 million units. We are very optimistic about being able to capitalize on this opportunity given by the government.

Are you getting the required support from the government and can you highlight your demand from the government?
We are happy to announce that we are getting full support from the government. The government is doing a commendable job to promote Make in India as well as Digital India initiative a grand success and we are proud to be part of it.

What kind of after sales support system you have? Can you give some details like number of after sales outlet, company owned/third party, what level of repair at which outlets (L1, L2, L3 etc), and what is your TAD?
We have 400+ after sales service centers across the country capable of L1 and L2 support maintaining maximum TAT of 3 days. Tablet and mobile are supported through carry-in pan-India service center network. Desktop is supported through onsite customer location.

Keeping the performance of 2015 in mind, what do you expect in 2016? What are the new things/innovations we could see from you/your company in the 2016?
7 inch tablets in the less than Rs 3,000 price band will continue to populate the market in the foreseeable future. Going forward, wearable devices, convertibles and 4G devices will also contribute towards the mobility sector. However, the increased availability of lower-priced basic tablets, plus the value add shifting to applications rather than hardware will result in the lifetime of premium tablets extending as they remain active in the household for longer.

Our intent is to offer free of cost digital learning solution to students through our tablets globally as part of our corporate social responsibility and play an integral and important part in prime minister’s e-governance and Digital India initiative.

Do you see consolidation among the handset players in the country in 2016?
In the Tablet PC market, disruption in technology, design and capability will play an important role in 2016. Players who can provide innovative products at affordable price without compromising quality will survive in the market.
