Caterpillar Launches Smartphone With Thermal Camera That Works Underwater Too


Smartphones are really getting smarter these days. After all this high end cameras like Hasselblad, Leica etc, a smartphone company is coming with thermal camera, that can see through fire and even smoke.

Just not that, the smartphone from Caterpillar, the famous construction machinery maker, CAT S60, is also one of the most advanced military grade smartphone available in the market. The smartphone is dust proof, shock proof and water proof, and has been tested under most rugged conditions.

Besides besing the first smartphone with an integrated thermal camera, the Cat S60, the company claims, is the most waterproof smartphone that can even work under 5 meters of water for 1 hour.


It is commonly said those who have brawns are equipped with less brain. But this Cat S60 defies that. The smartpone comes with 4.7 inch screen with HD super bright display and is covered with Gorilla Glass 4. This phone is so tough that it can withstand a fall from a height of 1.8 meter without leaving a scratch mark. The Cat S60 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 octa core processor with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage capacity.

On camera front, the Cat S60 comes with 13 megapixel camera with dual flash and a 5 megapixel front camera. The Cat S60 is also waterproof to depths of two meters, which can be extended to five meters using a unique Lockdown Switch. This enables the smartphone to be used as an underwater camera, pushing the boundaries of mobile technology, and how and where it is used. Its versatile, super-bright display can be viewed in bright sunlight, and the touchscreen can be controlled with wet fingers or while wearing gloves.

The Cat S60 includes an embedded thermal camera from FLIR, the global leader in thermal imaging technology, allowing Cat phone users to be the first in the world to use their smartphones for a multitude of use cases, including: detecting heat loss around windows and doors; spotting moisture and missing insulation; identifying over-heating electrical appliances and circuitry; and seeing in complete darkness. The thermal camera visualizes heat that is invisible to the naked eye, highlighting temperature contrasts. It can pick up heat and measure surface temperature from a distance of up to 50 feet and see through obscurants such as smoke.

The Cat S60 has a dedicated SOS button, which sends out location coordinates message to pre-programed contacts in case of an emergency. The Android â„¢Marshmallow device has a programmable key which can be customised for short press and long press for quick launch of any application. Curated applications like Zello makes the phone function as a Walkie Talky.

The Cat S60 is priced at Rs 64,999 and will be available at both online as well as offline retail stores.
