Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 : Among Best Budget Performers

Taiwanese smartphone maker Asus perhaps has thought of finishing this year with a bang – by launching a 5000 mAh battery supported smartphone, the ZenFone Max Pro M2. The Pro M2 is the first phone in its segment to use the flagship grade, latest and most premium Corning Gorilla Glass 6, which is designed to survive 15 consecutive one-meter drops onto rough surfaces. This makes ZenFone Max Pro M2 the only Smartphone under Rs.20000 with capability to endure multiple drops.

Compared to M1 you can really see the design difference when you take a look it side by side. The Polycarbonate matt finish is replaced by eye-catching wave finish with a glossy 16-layer coating,  that looks beautiful from every angle. The 3D-curved rear design is not only comfortable to hold, but also gives ZenFone Max Pro M2 a truly luxurious look, and even with all its new upgrades the phone is still superbly slim and light weight. The left side houses a tray for two nano SIM cards and a micro SD card and we have a power and volume rocker on the right side. The ZenFone offers rear fingerprint security sensor with 5-finger recognition and Face Unlock for maximum accessibility and for more connections and more storage, ZenFone Max Pro M2 features a convenient triple-slot tray, combining dual 4G VoLTE SIM slots (Dual SIM/Dual standby) with a microSD card slot that allows storage expansion up to 2TB.

Looking at the front the Zenfone Max Pro M2  6.3” display features the smallest full-function notch which includes an LED flash, Camera, Earpiece, Notification LED, Ambient and Proximity sensors, thus it makes no functional sacrifices to achieve a sleek notch design. The Zenfone Max Pro M2 is now protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The IPS display has a resolution of 2280X1080 and screen to body ratio is 88%.

The displays are really sharp and colours are  accurate vibrant when watching videos and brightness is no issue if you are watching it outdoors as well. Audio is also one of the selling point for Asus Zenfones, and one of the Max Pro M2’s highlight is its audio quality specially if we talk about in its segment. It provides great highs, mids and even lows which is very rare for a smartphone, making this happen is because the ZenFone Max Pro M2 uses a five-magnet speaker with a metal voice coil, driven by a powerful NXP low-distortion smart amplifier that delivers powerful, detailed and crystal-clear sound.

UI:

If you are fan of stock Android than this device is another good option for you. Asus shifted to stock Android from its ZenUI, like Zenfone M1 the M2 runs stock Android 8.1 Oreo, so if you like that Vanilla UI App drawer than this phone is a great option, and the Xiaomi Mi A2 finally has some competition for its mid range stock Android phones.

Power & Performance:

If we look at the hardware that runs the Zenfone Max Pro M2 is a Snapdragon 660 CPU, Adreno 512 GPU,6GB RAM and 64 GB of storage. The Snapdragon 660 is a great mid range chipset for pretty much anything you want to do, basic task like browsing, file transferring, social media and multitasking  are all the breeze.Moderate to heavy games like PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9 are no problem, with very minimal frame drops or hiccups during our game play testing. And this also achieved quite decent Benchmark scores, and that around what we have expected from a Snapdragon 660.

And powering it all this battery king is a mammoth 5000mAh battery, charging this will take around 2hrs 40min from 0 to 100%, and it lasts around 12 hrs and 24 min at PCMark battery test, which is pretty decent according to us.

Camera:

We are impressed with the images that we got from Zenfone Max Pro M2, so the  12MP + 5MP dual rear camera setup gives really good images under natural lighting conditions, photos are detailed, colours are nice and vibrant and overall we have desirable results from this mid range device. When it comes to low light it’s a little different story, their is a lot of noise, and lights have blown out. For videos we can shoot upto 4K at 30fps, but the stabilization is not upto the mark if we compare it to the Xiaomi MiA2. The 13MP front camera works fine for selfies, the beauty mode delivers good details in suitable lighting conditions.

Verdict:

Overall the Zenfone Max Pro M2 definitely hits the mark when you look at it as an upgrade in compare to M1, and starting at Rs,12,999 the Zenfone Max Pro M2 offers a best all round performance in the budget segment. Design, Sanpdragon 660, Corning Gorilla Glass 6, Stock Android experience and Battery life are the main USP of this device. The only let down according to us is the Camera performance of this device. But this is a highly recommended budget performer segment.
