Presently, Reliance Jio has a pan-India base of more than 500,000 subscribers and the average data consumption per user is in excess of 18 GB within the first month of service and this is increasing rapidly whereas average voice usage is over 250 minutes. On the other hand, the average data usage of Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, RCOM and Vodafone is less than 1 GB/Month to be precise i.e. 730 MB/Month. This proves that Reliance Jio network is designed for data usage in the range of 10-20 GB/Month.

For Vodafone, the data growth remained strong, with data usage increasing 64 percent, supported by an increasing proportion of 3G users, now totaling 25.9 million. However, the rate of revenue growth slowed in the quarter driven by increased price competition. This resulted in lower unitary prices, down 16 percent year-on-year, driven by increased bundle adoption which led to a reduction in data revenue growth.

In Europe the average smartphone data usage is now over 1 GB per month and 700 MB in AMAP which includes India.

First, the increase in data usage for Reliance Jio is mainly due to Google video applications like You Tube and Play Movies; Jio Chat which allows video calls, video channels and others. Second, the increase in data usage is due to the trial network where 4G handset is purchased by RIL group employees, partners, vendors and associates.

Third, RJIL envisages to usher in the era of visuality, where video will replace voice as the new communication medium and RJIL plans to have one of the most comprehensive and powerful video networks in the world. Fourth, RJIL’s IP-centric and content focused network has the ability to offer rich, multimedia communication and digital services in key domains such as education, healthcare, security, communication, financial services, government-citizen interfaces and entertainment.

The average data usage will remain in 10-20 GB/Month as RJIL’s LTE, FTTH and Wi-Fi focus is to make high speed broadband access to all customers across India through superior network quality, transformational data capacity and affordable services.
