Wynk Music Crosses 75 million Downloads

wynk_music

Riding high on demand for regional music, Airtel’s music app Wynk has seen huge surge in user reception and the company said it surpassed 75 million downloads recently. The company said Indian regional content saw a growth of 100% in recent times, so much so that it has now become the ‘go to destination’ for music lovers, stated Wynk Music.

While overall music from Bollywood continued to rule, it was Indian regional music streams on Wynk that stole the show and grew by over 100%.

Wynk Music has a collection of over 3 million songs, including popular music in 12 Indian regional languages. It has streaming partnership rights with nearly all content providers and labels in the industry providing users an unmatchable entertainment experience. Music in languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi & Kannada accounted for bulk of the 100% growth in regional content. [Please see charts below to see popular regional hits].

Another highlight of Wynk Music’s growth story has been that 13% of its active users now come from rural India and contribute to nearly 10% of the overall daily streams. These customers too looked up for content in their local languages.

Sameer Batra, CEO – Wynk, said, “It is really gratifying to see the overwhelming response from our users. We believe it’s an outcome of our unrelenting focus on innovation to deliver a great in-app experience driven by superior content curation with sharp focus on regional music. Affordable smartphones and increasing penetration of high speed data services will continue to add to the uptake of music and other content on smartphones. At Wynk, we will continue to bring more exciting innovations to make add to the music experience of our users.”

Some other highlights of what customers have been listening to on Wynk Music:

· Customers in India clearly have a thing for Remixes – The remixed versions of Bollywood classics to the latest hits continue to grow in popularity and made up for 13 of last year’s top 50 tracks on Wynk, contributing over 3% to the overall streams in the year.

· Jingles all the way: In a new trend, songs featured in popular ad campaigns went viral on Wynk Music. Levi’s ‘Live as You Dance’ campaign pushed Makeba by Jain into the limelight, as did the iPhone X campaign for Best Friend by SofiTukker feat. Nervo.

· Tier 2/3 towns look up for international music: User interest in international music continued to grow. And it was users from Tier-2 & Tier 3 cities that drove a lot of streaming thanks to increasing familiarity with artists via social media. Shape of You by Ed Shereen crossed 100 million streams to break all popularity records on Wynk Music.

· India also loves Latino: The Spanglish single Despacito by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee ft. Justin Beiber crossed 75Mn song plays, with its funky beats and popularity cutting across language preferences and musical affinities. The other major Latin pop hits on Wynk Music were MiGente, Echame La Culpa, Chantaje, and Subeme La Radio among others.

Uber Integrates UPI, BHIM For Digital Payment Of Cab Rides

uber-india-upi-bhim-integration

App based cab service provider Uber on Wednesday integrated its mobile app with Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and BHIM payments system to offer its customers or riders  more options for a digital payment for their cab rides.

The company partnered with Axis Bank and HDFC Bank for integration with UPI and BHIM respectively.

The service was launched by Union Electronics and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in the presence of executives from the respective partners including both the banks and NPCI.

“India’s digital economy will become a $1trillion economy in the next five years. India’s digital payments economy alone will be bigger than $500 billion. Integration of Uber app with UPI-BHIM will boost the digital economy of India,” said Ravi Shankar Prasad.

The launch witnessed the participation of over 100 delegates including Ms Shikha Sharma, Managing Director & CEO, Axis Bank, Mr. Parag Rao, Country Head – Card Payment Products, Merchant Acquiring Services & Marketing, HDFC Bank, Ms. Shweta Rajpal Kohli, Head of Public Policy for Uber India & South Asia and Mr. Madhu Kannan, Chief Business Officer, Uber India & Emerging Markets.

After demonetisation, businesses in India have witnessed a significant uptick in adoption of digital payment methods over cash transactions and Uber believes that fintech innovations such as UPI are the future of payments in India.

“Uber, like several other tech companies in India and around the world, depends on consumers being able to frequently make low value payments with minimal friction. UPI integration will bring millions of riders and driver partners into the digital payments ecosystem, offering them another secure and seamless payment interface and bolster the nation’s digital payment revolution,” said David Richter, SVP-Global Business, Uber.

As a technology driven company, Uber is encouraged by the recent moves of the government towards mainstreaming digital payments. Hailing the impact that new-age fintech solutions such as UPI can make, as a first step, Uber offered its riders the option to use their existing UPI IDs to pay for their rides in July 2017.

Uber India believes through the steadfast adoption of BHIM over the next few weeks among its 285,000+ weekly active drivers, the move will additionally enable over 450,000 registered drivers on the Uber platform to experience the power of UPI.

The company said it is committed to creating opportunities that foster an ecosystem of skill development and entrepreneurship.

Google Maps Offers Real Time Bus Info In Kolkata

google-maps-wbstc

Google Maps starting today will be able to provide real-time bus information to Kolkata bus commuters. The search engine major has teamed up with the West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC), to add real-time information about bus arrival times for Kolkata on Google Maps, making it easier for people to plan their trips.

This service is currently enabled for key WBTC transit routes, and is scheduled to be expanded to the remaining routes in the future. This is the first launch of real-time transit information for Google Maps in India.

So the next time you’re planning a trip between, say, Park Street and Bhowanipore, you can simply type the two locations into Google Maps to get information about which bus to catch and – more importantly – you’ll see when the next bus is actually arriving at your stop. You’ll also get an estimation of how long your trip is going to take, and if your bus is delayed Google Transit will automatically update the times in line with the new conditions. Arrival times based on real-time information available are marked in green on Google Maps.

“By sharing the real-time transit information of our buses with Google Maps, we are striving to deliver an enhanced level of service for our commuters. We are confident that the practical use of this technology will facilitate better trip planning resulting in greater convenience to commuters. We expect this to help increase the footfall in our buses and improve revenue realisation,” said Narayan Swaroop Nigam, IAS, Managing Director, WBTC.

“This is yet another attempt to bring smart public transport to Kolkata and to improve the performance of WBTC. We are committed to improve public transport.” said Sri Subhendu Adhikari, Minister In Charge Transport Department, Government of West Bengal.

Google Transit is a feature of Google Maps designed to help you plan your public transport trips quickly and easily. Just search for where you want to go and Google Maps will show you how to get there using public transport from your current location. Google Transit is available on Google Maps for Android and iOS as well as the Web. If you’re using the latest version of Google Maps, you can also compare public transport options to work out when you need to leave to arrive at your destination on time.

Google Maps globally provides over 1 billion km worth of transit results every day and has schedules for more than 3 million public transit stops worldwide. Google Transit is now available for hundreds of cities across dozens of countries, with new partners joining all the time. Google continues to work with public transport services in other cities to enable real-time transit information for their services, and will announce these as and when they become available.
