IRCTC To Provide Ola Services To Commuters


In a significant step towards customer service IRCTC has partnered with Ola to provide a comfortable and reliable cab service to its passengers. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, today signed a LOI (Letter of Intent) to enable commuters to book an Ola cab directly on IRCTC website as well as its app.

The services were offered from 19 March 2017.

With this partnership, Ola is the first mobility platform in the country to partner with the IRCTC to provide first and last-mile connectivity to commuters.

Through this partnership, commuters will be able to book all type of Ola cabs such as Micro, Mini, Prime Play and SUVs. It will also be offering Ola Autos and Ola Share. More importantly, customers can chose to pre-book the Ola cabs up to 7 days in advance.

In addition, travelers will be able to avail the Ola booking facility as a part of tourism packages, and travel itineraries. Ola’s self-serving kiosk on IRCTC outlets at railway stations will also enable commuters to book cabs.

Riding high on demand for regional music, Airtel’s music app Wynk has seen huge surge in user reception and the company said it surpassed 75 million downloads recently. The company said Indian regional content saw a growth of 100% in recent times, so much so that it has now become the ‘go to destination’ for music lovers, stated Wynk Music.

While overall music from Bollywood continued to rule, it was Indian regional music streams on Wynk that stole the show and grew by over 100%.

Wynk Music has a collection of over 3 million songs, including popular music in 12 Indian regional languages. It has streaming partnership rights with nearly all content providers and labels in the industry providing users an unmatchable entertainment experience. British Council To Offer Free English Courses On JioChat


British Council today said it is launching a new ‘Learn English’ channel where the council will offer free English courses to its users. The free English courses channel will be available on JioChat, the messaging app of Reliance Jio, and it will be offered free to all Jio users.

The free English courses channel, named LearnEnglish, will make available high-quality English language resources in multiple formats of text, video and audio to Jio’s subscriber base as well as to any other user who downloads the JioChat app. Video stories from British Council’s top offering English Club will also be available free of cost for JioChat users on Jio’s Explore section.

Uber Integrates UPI, BHIM For Digital Payment Of Cab Rides


App based cab service provider Uber on Wednesday integrated its mobile app with Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and BHIM payments system to offer its customers or riders  more options for a digital payment for their cab rides.

The company partnered with Axis Bank and HDFC Bank for integration with UPI and BHIM respectively.

The service was launched by Union Electronics and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in the presence of executives from the respective partners including both the banks and NPCI.

“India’s digital economy will become a $1trillion economy in the next five years. India’s digital payments economy alone will be bigger than $500 billion. Integration of Uber app with UPI-BHIM will boost the digital economy of India,” said Ravi Shankar Prasad.

The launch witnessed the participation of over 100 delegates including Ms Shikha Sharma, Managing Director & CEO, Axis Bank, Mr. Parag Rao, Country Head – Card Payment Products, Merchant Acquiring Services & Marketing, HDFC Bank, Ms. Shweta Rajpal Kohli, Head of Public Policy for Uber India & South Asia and Mr. Madhu Kannan, Chief Business Officer, Uber India & Emerging Markets.

After demonetisation, businesses in India have witnessed a significant uptick in adoption of digital payment methods over cash transactions and Uber believes that fintech innovations such as UPI are the future of payments in India.

Google Maps Offers Real Time Bus Info In Kolkata


Google Maps starting today will be able to provide real-time bus information to Kolkata bus commuters. The search engine major has teamed up with the West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC), to add real-time information about bus arrival times for Kolkata on Google Maps, making it easier for people to plan their trips.

This service is currently enabled for key WBTC transit routes, and is scheduled to be expanded to the remaining routes in the future. This is the first launch of real-time transit information for Google Maps in India.

So the next time you’re planning a trip between, say, Park Street and Bhowanipore, you can simply type the two locations into Google Maps to get information about which bus to catch and – more importantly – you’ll see when the next bus is actually arriving at your stop. You’ll also get an estimation of how long your trip is going to take, and if your bus is delayed Google Transit will automatically update the times in line with the new conditions. Arrival times based on real-time information available are marked in green on Google Maps.

“By sharing the real-time transit information of our buses with Google Maps, we are striving to deliver an enhanced level of service for our commuters. We are confident that the practical use of this technology will facilitate better trip planning resulting in greater convenience to commuters. We expect this to help increase the footfall in our buses and improve revenue realisation,” said Narayan Swaroop Nigam, IAS, Managing Director, WBTC.
