Realme’s Honest Poser On Flash Sales

Since the entry of Chinese smartphone brands, the Indian telecom industry saw a new phenomenon – flash sales. A typical flash sale is a type of sale when the brands, irrespective of product categories, put their wares of limited units for sale for a limited time frame or till the stocks last.

Technically this is fine but what the Chinese smartphone brands started in India during the flash sales is to claim that their entire stock got sold out in some flimsy amount of time, say in two seconds, five seconds or one minute. Even, this is fine as stuffs in high demand may get sold out in very short time. However, what used to give their claims a taste of bogosity was their non disclosure of number of units got sold in that period.

The brands, when asked, always shy away from sharing the data on number of units sold during the sale. Almost all the smartphone brands including Oppo, Xioami, Vivo, Honor, Micromax and YU have indulged in these ‘market gimmick‘ practices in the past. Even Flipkart has done the same in the past for its own smartphone brand Billion+.

However, it gives some fresh perception towards flash sales when a brand honestly tells the industry the number of units it sold during the period. For example, RealMe. This new smartphone brand recently announced that its latest smartphone RealMe2 saw a sale of 200,000 units in five minutes in its first flash sale. In the second, it sold around 120,000 units totalling 370,000 in two flash sales.

Whether the firm has really sold that many units in that many time is a different debate alltogether but it has atleast shared the both sides of the story – number of units sold in amount of time. This is rare in today’s Indin smartphone industry.

“We wish to be and fair and honest with our customers in all aspects, be it pricing, user experience or quality,” tells Madhav Sheth, Chief Executive Officer Realme India.

He further said, “We are glad that our customers have loved the second offering by Realme.
