Amazon-Follows-Microsoft-Way;-Plans-To-Build-Cloud-Data-Centers-In-2016Amazon Web Services (AWS) is moving the Microsoft way and is planning to build cloud data center in India in 2016.

Speaking at the 2nd Annual Digital India & Innovation Conclave 2015, Bikram Bedi, head India region, Amazon Internet Services said, “We are setting up data centers in India in 2016.”

Recently, Microsoft has set up three data centers in India at Pune, Chennai and Mumbai and is offering commercial cloud services for Azure and Office 365. IBM has also recently established its first data center in Mumbai whereas Google doesn’t have any data centers in India till date.

According to analysts, public cloud and hybrid cloud adoption will significantly increase in India as organizations will benefit from data sovereignty, lower latency and geo redundancy with the availability of local infrastructure. The cloud data centers will also open up new possibilities for cloud players in e-governance, financial inclusion, healthcare, education and others.

Amazon Web Services already has a sizable customer base in India and building India data center will definitely help in serving local customers as it will help in solving organizations requirement of having their data located in India geography.

The government is offering a new model of cloud computing services (including IaaS, PaaS and SaaS) to the users through ‘GI Cloud’ coined as MeghRaj. The focus of MeghRaj is to evolve a strategy and implement various components to ensure proliferation of cloud in government vertical through private cloud players.

The aim of the cloud policy is to realize a comprehensive vision of government private cloud environment available for use by central and state government departments, districts and municipalities to accelerate ICT-enabled service improvements and also provide flexibility in terms of choice of technology.

Amazon is also looking at government vertical in a big way as government of India is floating RFP in December for provisional accreditation of cloud services of private cloud providers in the country.
