Chinese smartphone maker Gionee is in the process of designing and developing its own app store in the lines of Google Play store. The app store will be called as ‘GStore’ and at present, is being put on final rounds of testing.
As per sources, the Gionee GStore may be launched as early as 1st week of April this year. The app store looks exactly like Google Play store but the company sources said it will have more than what Google offers.
The GStore will have both free as well as paid apps just like Google Play and even have the same apps but the paid apps in Gionee app store will be cheaper compared to its global counterpart. All the apps, however, will be based on Android platform.
Starting April all future phones of Gionee will have the GStore pre-installed and the older phones can download this app from company’s own website or from Google Play store.
The company is also building a developer ecosystem wherein the developers can develop apps for Gionee GStore besides doing the same for Google Play, and the source also said that, these developers will be developing apps exclusively for GStore.
The Chinese phone maker recently launched a new smartphone – Gionee A1, and this will be the first smartphone to have the new GStore. The source said the app store will be pushed to A1 OTA when the app is launched.
The Gionee A1 is a 5.5 inch device with full HD display having 19020×1080 pixel resolution. The phone is powered by Mediatek MT6755 octa core 2.0 GHz processor. The phone comes with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage capacity which can be expanded upto 256 GB.
The Gionee A1 sports a 16 megapixel camera on the front coupled with a selfie flash. This is because the company wants to create a distinct space for itself in the selfie camera phone space. In contrast, the company has put a 13 megapixel camera on the back which is usually considered as the primary phone. The A1 runs on Android Nougat, carries a 4010 mAh battery and is priced at Rs 19,999.
