Aircel Signs ICR Agreement With BSNL

This is a first agreement between a state owned operator and a private telecom player. With this strategic tie up, both organizations will be able to enhance customer experience besides utilizing each other’s assets and network strength.

BSNL is also planning to sign ICR agreement with Vodafone and Reliance Jio in the next two months.

Speaking on ICR agreement, Anupam Shrivastava, CMD, BSNL said, “To begin with the ICR agreement is for 2G and later on it will be expanded to included 3G.”

The ICR agreement is for all the circles and is on a mutually give and take basis added Shrivastava.

BSNL is planning to add another 21,000 BTS in Mobile Phase 7+ Project of which 13,000 would be 3G BTS in FY 2016-17. In Mobile Phase 7, BSNL had plans to install 25,000 BTS of which 23,000 BTS is already in place.

The Mobile Phase 7+ project is directed towards increasing 3G penetration and replacing Mobile Phase 4 project equipment as it is not offering good data speed and is also consuming lot of power. The deployment of new technologies will help in consuming less power and also providing higher bandwidth.

Speaking on ICR agreement, Anupam Shrivastava said, “To begin with the ICR agreement is for 2G and later on it will be expanded to included 3G.”

BSNL Revenue To Cross Rs 30,000 Crore In FY2015-16

The revenue growth for FY2015-16 is expected to be around 5 percent in comparison to 2.4 percent achieved in FY 2014-15. Even services revenue is bound to grow in FY2015-16.

BSNL’s services revenue for FY2014-15 increased by 4.2 percent to reach Rs 27,242 crore. On the other hand from an operating loss of Rs 691 crore in FY 2013-14, BSNL registered an operating profit of Rs 672 crore in FY2014-15.

FY2014-15 has also shown the highest services revenue for BSNL in the last five years – FY2010-11 (Rs 27,045 crore), FY2011-12 (Rs 25,998 crore), FY2012-13 (Rs 25,655 crore) and FY2013-14 (Rs 26,153 crore) thanks to mobile expansion strategy of BSNL which helped the company to add 47 lakh mobile subscribers in FY 2014-15 thereby reversing the trend of negative growth in previous years. BSNL has also shown outstanding mobile data growth of 92 percent in FY 2014-15 registering a revenue of Rs 1,380 crore.

In the last 12 months, BSNL has added 1.84 million 3G subscribers and 0.22 million broadband subscribers showing a growth of 2.3 percent for both 3G and broadband. To increase its data carrying capability, BSNL has focused on Wi-Fi, data center, 3G, 4G and FTTH in a big way. Till date, BSNL has installed 1,000 Wi-Fi hotspots to give a big fillip to data. In terms of FTTH, BSNL has done well in 45 cities and increased its subscribers by 71 percent in a year’s time frame.

“In the last one year, BSNL has strengthened its mobile data portfolio by focusing on Wi-Fi, strengthening its data network and core network (like OTN, MPLS and OFC), expansion of SGSN & GGSN, FTTH (Fiber to the Home) and others and this has resulted in huge jump in data revenue,” said Anupam Shrivastava, CMD, BSNL.

“We have missed on voice bus but we do not want to miss on the data bus. For any company data is the key and we are increasing data carrying capability and focusing on data centric business with main focus on Wi-Fi,” added Anupam Shrivastava.

The company is also investing a lot to increase its data carrying capability. In terms of Capex, BSNL has invested Rs 3,300 crore in FY 2014-15 and would be investing Rs 7,700 crore in FY2015-16.

“Capex investment in the current fiscal is focused on mobile network, core network (OTN, MPLS, router and OFC), next generation network and data expansion,” commented Anupam Shrivastava.

With the increase in revenue to Rs 30,000 crore, BSNL’s profitability is also expected to increase in FY2015-16 thereby improving its financials under the dynamic leadership of Anupam Shrivastava.

The LTE deployment will cover four telecom circles which serve over 40 million subscribers. It will enable Idea Cellular to deliver superior mobile broadband experiences, including faster mobile data speeds and better smartphone performance, to its subscribers.

According to sources, Ericsson has bagged Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, North East and Maharashtra circles for Idea Cellular.

The contract covers equipment, software and a range of professional services, including project management, systems integration and supervisory managed services for 4GLTE across select circles for a period of two years. Ericsson will install its multi-standard RBS 6000 radio base station, which supports GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA and LTE in a single cabinet and upgrade core network and operations support systems (OSS).

The agreement also includes the transformation of Idea Cellular’s existing mobile radio access and core network infrastructure across nine circles for 2G and five circles for 3G.
