Gionee Launches VR Enabled Smartphone S6 Pro

Gionee Friday launched a new smartphone with in-built virtual reality features. Called Gionee S6 Pro, the smartphone allows users to watch VR content using a compatible headset. This is the first ever VR compatible phone launched by the Chinese smartphone maker.

The Gionee S6 Pro is a 5.5 inch smartphone with full HD IPS display offering resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and is crafted with 2.5 D curved glass and protected by Gorilla glass 3. The S6 Pro is powered by 64 bit octacore 1.8 GHz processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage space which further can be expanded upto 128 GB using memory cards.

The Gionee S6 Pro is a 4G device with VoLTE capability which you can use on Reliance Jio network. The device comes with 13 megapixel Sony IMX 258 camera at the rear panel which is supported by 5P lense and dual tone flash. There is an 8 megapixel camera at the front with f2.2 aperture.

The Gionee S6 Pro comes in an all-metallic body and is backed up by 3130 mAh battery with quick charge feature. The phone runs on Android Marshmallow OS and comes in varied colours.In terms of connectivity the S6 Pro offers Bluetooth, WiFi, Hotspot, besides being a dual-SIM LTE device.

The Gionee S6 Pro has a front finger print sensor and is priced at Rs 23,999.


Besides the S6 Pro, Gionee also launched a VR headset on Friday which can be used along with S6 Pro to watch various VR content. The company has put good number of VR content including games in its app store called G-Store. The VR head set is priced at Rs 2499.

Both the Gionee S6 Pro and the VR headset will be available from 1 October.

Huawei Starts Local Manufacturing, To Produce 3 Mn Phones


huawei_gscHuawei Technologies, the makers of the Honor series smartphones, Friday announced its local manufacturing plans. It has partnered with Flex Technologies to set up a mobile manufacturing plant in Chennai where it will make 3  million mobile phones annually.

The first set of Honor smartphones will roll out from the factory from October this year.

Flex, earlier known as Flextronics, has a manufacturing unit in Chennai spread over 645,000 sq. ft area and the company will be manufacturing the Huawei smartphones from that factory. Besides Huawei, Flex is also manufacturing phones for Motorola and Lenovo in its Chennai unit.

Neither Flex nor Huawei disclosed their investment details for setting up the local manufacturing plant.

Flex, besides making phones for Huawei, will also help the Chinese firm in its logistics and aftermarket services. The company will also hire 15oo more people for augmenting its production as well as other services with the addition Huawei into its client list.

“This is the 40th electronics manufacturing unit set up in India within just two years,” Information and Technology minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said while remote-inaugurating this facility from Delhi.

Prasad said in value terms the local mobile manufacturing industry has grown by 185%. In 2014-15 India produced locally made mobile phones worth Rs 19,000 crore whereas it jumped to Rs 54,000 crore in 2015-16. He expected the revenue figure will touch Rs 94,000 crore in this fiscal.

In volume terms also, India has demonstrated significant improvement. In fiscal year 2014-15 India produced a total of 6 crore or 60 million mobile phones which increased to 11 crore or 110 millions by 2015-16 showing a growth of 83%. It is expected that India’s mobile manufacturing units would produce around 220 million phones by fiscal 2016-17.

Few days back another Chinese smartphone manufacturer, LeEco, started its local production from a factory set up in Greater Noida.

Almost all the Chinese phone makers who are doing business in India have already started local production in India. Some of them include Xiaomi, Lenovo, Motorola, Coolpad, LeEco and Huawei.

Lenovo Z2 Plus Launched



Lenovo Thursday launched its latest smartphone – Z2 Plus – in the Indian market, barely after two days it launched the Moto E3 Power in the country. The Moto E3 Power, the company claimed, sold more than 1,00,000 units on the first day of the sale.

The newly launched Lenovo Z2 Plus is powered by the Qualcomm’s flagship processor – Snapdragon 820 SoC (System on chip) and Adreno 530 GPU. The Z2 Plus comes in two variants basis its storage capacity. One variant uses 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage while the other comes with 4 GB RAM and 64  GB space. The Lenovo Z2 uses DDR4 RAM and Sandisk SmartSLC for storage.

Contrary to the present days phones, the Z2 Plus does not use metal-glass combination for the build of the device. Instead, it uses an innovative Fiber glass frame, which the company claims, add durability while keeping the phone light weight. The 5 inch display offers 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution.

The phone sports a 13 megapixel rear camera with phase detection autofocus and offers features like 4K video recording, full HD time-lapse video, and 120fps slo-mo video. At the front, Z2 sports  8 megapixel camera.

Among other features, the Lenovo Z2 Plus comes with dual-SIM slots, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, 4G with VoLTE, USB Type-C port and fast battery charging support.

A new feature added by Lenovo in the Z2 Plus is the health app called U Health. This app tracks all your fitness needs like your step, distance and calories with the help of dedicated Pedometer, Gyroscope, Accelerometer and sensor processing unit of Snapdragon 820. The company claims, one does not need a health band if he possesses a Z2 Plus.

The Lenovo Z2 Plus is priced at Rs 19,999 for the 4G variant and Rs 17,999 for the 3 GB variant. The smartphone will come with a Chrono Case Accessory with 5 different Chrono faces. The Matte Black Stealth Case worth Rs 699 will be bundled with the phone.

The South Korean firm today launched one more smartphone under the Galaxy A series. Called Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro, the 6 inch smartphone is priced at Rs 32,490 and will be available from 26 September in India.

The Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon octa core processor with 4GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage capacity. However, the storage capacity can be expanded up to 256 GB using external SD cards.

The dual SIM A9 Pro smartphone with super AMOLED display sports 16 megapixel camera with LED flash and auto-focus at the rear and is supported by an 8 megapixel camera at the front.  The A9 Pro deploys Android Marshmallow as OS and offers new age features like finger print scanner, fast charging, screen mirroring and Samsung Knox security tools.

Connectivity wise the Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro, besides being a multi band LTE device, offers Bluetooth, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC and USB 2.0.

LeEco Eyes Rs 100 Cr Revenue On A Single Day, Calls It Epic 919

leeco-919-festivalChinese technology firm LeEco yesterday announced it will bring its globally popular Epic 919 festival to India this year and it will be celebrated on, as the name suggests, 19 September where it brings for its customers great amount of freebies, cash-backs, gifts and other lucrative offers.

During the Epic 919 which will run for 24 hours starting midnight 19 September, LeEco expects to do a  business of more than Rs 100 crore.

“We target to sell around 70 to 75,000 superphones and 2000 Super TVs on that single day,” LeEco’s India COO Atul Jain said.

If LeEco manages to sell these number of products in terms of volume, then the company stands to cross the Rs 100 crore mark easily. The lowest priced smartphone costs Rs 9,999 and the lowest priced TV costs Rs 59,790.

Besides the smartphones and televisions, the company will also put other accessories like phone cases, bluetooth speakers and headsets on sale.

The Epic 919 offers will be available on the company’s own e-retail and Flipkart. During this festival, LeEco will be extending fabulous offers worth Rs 495 million.

VU Launches Luxury TVs, Eyes Rs 600 Cr Revenue In FY17

VU-Luxury-TvTelevision brand VU Tuesday launched a series of luxury TVs, including smart televisions, in the Indian market ahead of the festive season. Priced in the range of Rs 1,00,00 to Rs 3,00,000 the VU TVs come in varied sizes including 55 inches, 65 inches and 75 inches. The luxury TV range includes curved TVs and premium UHD smart TVs.

The California based TV brand having Devita Saraf as its CEO, though a new player in the Indian market, claims to be doing good in India and is the fourth largest brand after Sony, Samsung and LG.

The company also claimed that VU TV has seen over 350% Y-o-Y growth in last financial years and it eyes a revenue of Rs 600 crore in FY 2016-17. Its revenue in FY 2015-16 was Rs 275 crore, company’s CEO Devita Saraf said.

“We a have the largest range of TVs after Sony, Samsung and LG with 22 Unique SKUs in the Indian market. We have had 350% Year on Year growth since 2013 aiming for a turnover of Rs.600 Cr in 2016-17. With the launch of our new portfolio and many more in the pipeline, we are confident of achieving that goal within the stipulated time frame”, she added.

The company had sold a total of 1,50,000 TV sets last year and targets to triple it to touch 4,50,000  units in 2016-17.

“Last year we sold 35,000 units on a single day,” Saraf said. “That shows consumer’s trust in our brand.”

Mostly relying on online retail as distribution strategy, the company is planning to expand its offline footprints in this year.

“70% of our sales comes from online and 30% from offline but we are expanding our physical reach this year,” the young lady CEO of the VU told TeleAnalysis.

The company has more than 200 distributors in the country and VN wants to double it by end of the year. Similarly, to offer a holistic experience of the TVs, VU has opened 20 company-owned physical stores which will also be doubled by end of 2016.

However, the company also claims itself as the largest online TV brand in Indian TV market which is getting crowded as well. In the last quarter 3 new brands entered into the market and all of them rely online ass their preferred retail channel.

Chinese technology company LeEco, earlier known as LeTV launched its large screen smart TVs in July, Kodak launched in August and Micromax also launched its new series of TV sets in the Indian market.
