xiaomi-surge-launched

Xiaomi. This smartphone maker is different. The Lei Jun founded firm loves treading paths traveled by few. On Tuesday it added a new feather on its cap when it launched its own chipset – Surge 1 – to be used for its devices including smartphones.  With the new chipset, Xiaomi becomes only the fourth smartphone maker in the world to create a chipset on its own. Founded in 2010, this 7 year old startup has filed over 16,000 patents, among which it has been granted 3612, including 1767 international patents.

Along with the announcement of its chipset, Xiaomi also launched a new smartphone – Mi 5C – based on its Surge 1 chipset.

“The ability to create its own chipsets is the pinnacle achievement for any smartphone company. For Xiaomi, the move is an essential next step in our development. In order to deliver on our promise to make innovation available to everyone, we need to master the core technologies of our industry and tightly integrate the development of our hardware with our software, helping us to make even better smartphones that will consistently surprise the industry and delight consumers,” said Lei Jun, CEO and co-founder of Xiaomi.
