Micromax Brings Back Its Most Successful Smartphone Canvas 2 In New Avatar

micromax_canvas_2

Micromax on Thursday relaunched its most successful smartphone series Canvas 2, in a completely new avatar. The first Canvas 2 was launched in 2012.

Among the new things in this Canvas 2, are Corning Glass 5 that is considered as the strongest protective glass for smartphones yet, Android Nougat OS and bundled data offer from Airtel.

“Canvas2 was the first smartphone that we launched in our Canvas range of smartphones back in 2012, which reinvented the way consumers looked at their smartphone as it led to the democratization of technology in India. Over the last few months, as the Indian handset and telecom industry has undergone dynamic shift, the focus of consumers is shifting from just the hardware, to overall connected experience. Therefore, to address the consumer needs, we are happy to partner with Airtel to offer a full year of unlimited calls and 4G data with the new Canvas2, which will help drive large scale adoption throughout the country,” said Rahul Sharma, Co-Founder, Micromax.

The new Canvas 2 comes in a 5 inch screen size with 1.3 GHz MediaTek Quadcore processor and is coupled with 3 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage space. The storage space, however, can be expanded up to 64 using micro SD cards.

The phone also sports an 13 megapixel rear camera with flash and a 5 megapixel front camera.

The 4G LTE Canvas 2 is VoLTE enabled and comes with a front fingerprint sensor. The phone carries 3050 mAh battery and Micromax claims the device would offer up to 11 hours of back up.

Like the comeback of Canvas 2, the company must be expecting a similar comeback for the brand as well. The past one year has not been very encouraging for the company that can be attributed to multiple factors including entry of plethora of Chinese brands, aggressive branding and market buying by these firms, a poor product road map, and a bit, due to demonetization.

The Airtel tie up is a good step. The offer gives Micromax Canvas buyers 1GB of 4G data per day for an entire year and 400 minutes of free talk time per day. This is huge for data hungry India and it is expected that consumers would lovve to go for this.
