Gionee Launches 16 MP Selfie Smartphone, Coins A New Term Selfiestan


Chinese smartphone maker Gionee on Tuesday launched a new smartphone with a 16 megapixel front camera for selfies. Putting major focus on selfie cameras in its smartphones, the company also created a new term for its brand campaign called Selfiestan.

The new smartphone Gionee A1 is a 5.5 inch device  with full HD display having 19020×1080 pixel resolution. The phone is powered by Mediatek MT6755 octa core 2.0 GHz processor. The phone comes with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage capacity which can be expanded upto 256 GB.

The Gionee A1 sports a 16 megapixel camera on the front coupled with a selfie flash. This is because the company wants to create a distinct space for itself in the selfie camera phone space. In contrast, the company has put a 13 megapixel camera on the back which is usually considered as the primary phone.

The A1 runs on Android Nougat and carries a 4010 mAh battery. The dual SIM LTE phone will be available on online as well as offline and the pre-booking starts from 23 March. Gionee, however, did not disclose the price of the phone today.

Xiaomi Launches Its Cheapest Phone Redmi 4A With 13 MP Camera For Rs 5,999


It can’t get any cheap. And it should not get any cheap for a smartphone having 5 inch display and 13 megapixel camera to be sold at Rs 5,999, and that too from a braned manufacturer like Xiaomi. Yes, the Chinese phone maker today launched its most affordable smartphone Redmi 4A for just Rs 5,999.

The Redmi 4A, however, does not compromise when it comes to specs. The phone comes with 5 inch screen with HD display with dual SIM support. The phone is powered by Qualcomm quadcore 1.4 GHz processor with Snapdragon 425 chipset and is coupled with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage capacity. This space can be upped up to 128 GB using micro SD cards.

On camera front the Redmi 4A comes with 13 megapixel primary snapper with f/2.2 aperture and a front camera of 5 megapixel. The cameras come with smart features like Beautify on both Pro as well as Smart modes. The phone carries a 3120 mAh battery.

This latest phone from Xiaomi is LTE and VoLTE enabled and comes in three colors – Dark Grey, Gold and Rose Gold.

With the announcement of Redmi 4A, the company also announced its second manufacturing unit in partnership with Foxconn at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. The first plant went live in August 2015 and by March 2016, over 75 percent of its phones were being manufactured in India.

With the new manufacturing plant, more than 95 percent of Xiaomi’s smartphones sold in India are now manufactured in India. Xiaomi will now have a combined production capacity of one phone per second during operational hours, the company claimed.

The plant, according to the company, employs 5000 people from over 100 surrounding villages of which More than 90 percent of the workforce employed are women.

“With our second manufacturing plant running, we are extending Xiaomi’s commitment to being in India for the long haul and are generating more jobs in the country. With this new plant and our latest Redmi 4A, we are truly excited to be playing a role in enhancing the quality of life for people in India and being a part of the fabric of the country. I would like to thank our partner Foxconn for their incredible support in our India growth story,” said Manu Jain, vice president and managing director, Xiaomi India.

The Xiaomi Redmi 4A will be available on company’s own shopping portal as well as on amazon from 23 March.

Caterpillar Launches Smartphone With Thermal Camera That Works Underwater Too

Motorola Moto G5 Plus With Premium Specs Launched For Rs 14,999


Motorola today launched its latest smartphone of its ‘G’ series of phones- the Moto G5 Plus. This phone was showcased in the recently concluded Mobile World Congress and today it was launched for the Indian market for Rs 14,999.

The moto G5 Plus comes in two variants – depending on its RAM and storage capacity. The 3GB/16GB version is priced at Rs 14,999 whereas the 4GB/32GB version of the Moto G5 Plus is priced a thousand rupees more.

The phone looks all premium. Specs wise, the smartphone comes in 5.2 inch screen size with IPS LCD full HD display offering 424 ppi. The display panel is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with 2 GHz octa core processor and 650 MHz Adreno GPU. The phone comes in two variants – 3GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage and 4 GB RAM with 32 GB storage. The phone is priced accordingly.

On camera front, Motorola claims the shipped camera is the best and most advanced camera in its class and category. The primary camera is a 12 megapixel snapper with dual autofocus pixel, that, the company claims, gives 60x faster autofocus capability compared to the Moto G4 Plus. The front selfie camera is a 5 megapixel one.

The Moto G5 Plus is dual SIM LTE smartphone with the option to insert a 4G SIM in eitther of the card slots. Connectivity wise, the phone comes with other options including WiFi, Bluetooth as well as NFC. The NFC is of no use ass of now but whenever India merchants start using Android Pay or any other NFC enabled payment mechanisms, this feature will come as handy.

The Motorola Moto G5 Plus will be available on Flipkart from 12 tonight and both the parnters are providing some schemes to entice the customers. These include cash back offer from SBI credit cards, exchange bonus, a buyback guarantee and some free accessories.

Chinese Smartphone Maker iVOOMi Enters India, Partners Shopclues


One more Chinese smartphone brand, iVOOMi, entered the highly competitive Indian mobile phones market. The company will launch high-end smartphones but in the affordable range of Rs 4000-Rs. 10,000.

iVOOMi will unveil iV505 as their first smartphone in Indian Market in the month of March, priced at Rs. 3,999. iV505 provides high-end features – Jio ready 4G VoLTE SIM cards on both the slots, flash charge technology, and Android Marshmallow 6.0 which is unique to smartphones in this price range.

Xiaomi Defies Conventions, Launches Own Chipset Surge 1


Xiaomi. This smartphone maker is different. The Lei Jun founded firm loves treading paths traveled by few. On Tuesday it added a new feather on its cap when it launched its own chipset – Surge 1 – to be used for its devices including smartphones.  With the new chipset, Xiaomi becomes only the fourth smartphone maker in the world to create a chipset on its own. Founded in 2010, this 7 year old startup has filed over 16,000 patents, among which it has been granted 3612, including 1767 international patents.

Along with the announcement of its chipset, Xiaomi also launched a new smartphone – Mi 5C – based on its Surge 1 chipset.

“The ability to create its own chipsets is the pinnacle achievement for any smartphone company. For Xiaomi, the move is an essential next step in our development. In order to deliver on our promise to make innovation available to everyone, we need to master the core technologies of our industry and tightly integrate the development of our hardware with our software, helping us to make even better smartphones that will consistently surprise the industry and delight consumers,” said Lei Jun, CEO and co-founder of Xiaomi.

Surge S1 Specs

As Xiaomi’s first in-house chipset, Surge S1 uses a high-performance octa-core ARM CortexA53 processor with a big.LITTLE design, incorporating four 2.2GHz cores and four 1.4Ghz cores, achieving a balance between performance and power efficiency. In the Geekbench benchmark, Surge S1 outperformed other chipsets in its range such as Snapdragon 625. With an integrated Mali T-860 MP4 GPU, superb graphics performance in gaming and 4K video is made possible while using up to 40 percent less power than the last-generation Mali GPU.

Equipped with a 32-bit DSP supporting VoLTE and 16kHz sampling, Surge S1 works wonders with sound, resulting in high-quality voice calls even in noisy environments.

Surge S1 also comes with an in-house image signal processor (ISP) developed by Xiaomi. The 14-bit dual ISP features increased light sensitivity by up to 150 percent and a dual noise reduction algorithm that reduces noise and preserves detail, resulting in incredible images even in challenging lighting situations.

Xiaomi Mi 5c Specs

Xiaomi Mi 5c, based on Surge 1 chipset, comes in 5.15 inch screen size and weighs just 135 grams. The use of 16 LEDs for the display backlight gives the screen on Mi 5c an incredibly crisp 550-nit maximum brightness. The phones has 3GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage space. It sports a 12 megapixel camera.

This phone is launched in China and will be available from 3 March.

This is one of those most powerful smartphones to be launched this MWC. The P10 comes in 5.1 inch IPS LCD screen with 1080p HD display and the P10 Plus with 5.5 inch screen with quadHD display. Both the phones deploy 8 core processors and sport 12 megapixel camera. Both the phones claim to support data speed in Gigabytes!


This Chinese smartphone maker was the surprise of the event. It claimed to have launched world’s first Gigabit phone to be used on 5G networks. Named Gigabit Phone, this smartphone from ZTE offers download speed up to 1 gigabit per second!

Mmoto G5, Moto G5 Plus

Lenovo too launched couple of smartphones at the world’s largest mobile expo. Its Motorola brand launched two new phones – the G5 and G5 Plus that come in 5 and 5.2 inch size respectively. While the Moto G5 Plus comes in octa core 2.0 GHz processor, the G5 runs at 1.4GHz. Both the devices run on Android Nougat 7.0.


The Korean firm launched the biggest phone of MWC 2017 – the LG G6, that comes in 5.7 inch screen size. The LG G6 is water and dust resistant. The LG G6 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 4 GB RAM, 64 GB internal storage and fingerprint sensor. The phone carries 3300 mAh battery.
